I remember being suprised at feeling "touched out" by my babies. I don't recall anyone ever saying that that could happen. I expected that my arms would always long for my baby, not that I would feel so much relief in passing them on to another. . I also remember feeling guilty about it. . It's easy to forget that we as mothers have limits. We don't cease to be the people we were before we became mother. What we are becomes stretched, but it is still our personhood in essence...... many times feeling the growing pains of that stretching. . So if you've never had anyone say it to you... it's ok if you don't want to hold your baby every hour of the day. That doesn't diminish your love for your child. You're a good mom when you lay your child down in their bed or let them hang out in the swing for a little bit. . It's ok to still be you... to retain your name even when you gain the title of "mom." . And in a few years, you will see how this experience deepens your self-knowledge in ways you could never have predicted. You'll come out on the other side with more wisdom and grace... a fuller picture of who you are. . Now let that sleeping baby lie. Thank you to all the families I photographed this fall!! <3 <3 Even though I was closed down due to covid-19 for a good 5 months, I am finishing out the year with more family, couple, and newborn sessions than ever before. Feeling very grateful, and am looking for ways to serve my community more in the coming year. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
