Naturopathic & Chiropractic Family Health LLC 03.11.2020

This is a special week for Naturopathic & Chiropractic Family Health LLC as it marks one year since we have been officially open! Dr. Jane Drobin is the owner of NC Family Health LLC and practices medicine based on the following six principles: 1) Do no harm, 2) Identify and treat the root cause, 3) Healing power of nature, 4) Doctor as teacher, 5) Treat the whole person, 6) Focus on prevention. Originally from Elizabethtown, Dr. Drobin is so excited to be back where she grew... up and providing natural, holistic care to the community. Dr. Drobin holds two doctoral degrees. One doctoral degree in Naturopathic medicine and one in Chiropractic medicine. In the state of PA, both doctural degrees require a bachelor degree and a 4 year accredited naturopathic medical school or chiropractic school. Graduating from NUHS, Dr. Drobin was able to earn both degrees at the same time. **Yes that is a lot of credits and year around schooling ;) Being both a Naturopathic Doctor and Chiropractor, she has the unique training to treat both internal and physical ailments. Common modalities of treatment in office include diet & lifestyle changes, botanical medicine, proper supplementation, nutrition, chiropractic adjustments, homeopathy, functional labs, specialty labs, cold laser, cupping, IASTM etc. A majority of the first appointment is just simply getting to know all aspects of the patient’s life so that an individualized treatment plan can be offered. She reminds patients that we are treating them as individuals, not their diagnosis. Being a first year business owner, I have learned SO much. Things weren’t always perfect, but I was able to grow as a doctor, a business owner and as a person. There were quite a few curve balls thrown at me this past year, but we were able to get through it all and come out stronger than ever. The best part about this past year is meeting all of my patients! I have met some incredible people and hearing about their health journey reminds me why I entered this field of medicine. I am eager to help them and I love watching their excitement as they obtain the results that they wanted. Meeting patients that share the same lifestyle as me has been such a treat and a reminder that we are all in this together. -Dr. Drobin If you have any questions, please email Dr. Drobin at [email protected] or give the office a call at (717) 381-5773. For the month of September, we are offering free 15-20 minute consultations. Schedule a consultation, come meet Dr. Drobin and see if she the right fit for your health journey!

Who here has been told that if they wanted to lose weight, just eat better and exercise? Who has done that, and still hasn't gotten the results of their hard work? Weight loss can be a struggle for many individuals. As much as eating better and exercise is wonderful advice, sometimes there is just a little more to it.... There are underlying reasons why weight loss can be difficult, which includes the following: Hormone imbalances: This could include excess cortisol, insulin resistance/leptin blockage, sluggish thyroid, PCOS, estrogen imbalances and more! This is where functional laboratory analysis can be utilized to get to the root of the problem. Mental/emotional stress: When our bodies are stressed, we compare this to being in a "flight or fight" mode, like you are running from a bear. Of course your body isn't going to focus on losing weight it has other priorities in mind! When stress is managed, our HPA axis is balanced, we refer this to being in a parasympathetic state and this is when we can talk about weight loss. Nutritional deficiencies- The truth is, Americans are overfed and undernourished. 30% of Americans fall short of nutrients like magnesium, vitamin C, vitamin E, Vitamin A and 80% have low vitamin D levels. Nine out of 10 people are low in omega-3 fatty acids, which among other things help control inflammation and blood sugar levels. With nutrient deficiencies we can reset the metabolism, aiming to balance the body chemistry to burn fat, balance blood sugar and stabilize hormones. Healing your gut and liver support may be also be indicated for weight your weight loss journey, as well as managing stress and getting enough water and sleep! Questions? Do not hesitate to call NC Family Health LLC at (717) 381-5773 or email us at [email protected] Let us be apart of your health journey!

Pregnancy, pregnancy, pregnancy, what else is there to know? 1) Find yourself the right supplement regime! Many women are already taking a prenatal. Other supplements to consider (and should be talked about with your healthcare provider) include calcium/magnesium, probiotics, vitamin D and fish oil. The thing to remember with supplements is that they are NOT all created equal. The things to look for in a prenatal include the best forms of vitamins. If your prenatal has folic ...Continue reading

NC Family Health LLC is so honored to have been interviewed by Carissa Ressler, owner or Kairos Massage Therapy here in Elizabethtown and member of the Downtown Business Committee of the Elizabethtown Chamber of Commerce. 2020 has been an abnormal year at its least. But being part of a community that is supportive is one of the many reasons why we opened up in Elizabethtown. Can't wait to watch the rest of the interviews and learn more about other small businesses in Elizabethtown. This small little town has so much to offer!

Does anyone know what isohexadecane, butyloctyl salicylate, octyldodecyl citrate or cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 dimethicone is? How about lauryl PEG-8, C30-38 olefin/isopropyl maleate/MA copolymer? We don't either. But we do know is that these are common ingredients found in sunscreen. These specific ingredients are in a popular children's brand. Here at NC Family Health LLC, we commonly use the phrase, "If you can't pronounce it, don't eat it." The same applies to products we use on... our skin, including SUNSCREEN. Our skin is the largest organ in our body and everything we put on it is absorbed into our bloodstream. Is sunlight exposure important? Yes. We recommend at least 20 minutes of skin exposure in the sun daily. Is protecting yourself form the sun important? Yes. But find a quality product that will protect your skin, and won't fill your body and our environment with toxins.

According to the PA Lyme Resource Network, PA has been ranked #1 in the nation for the last 7 years for the number of diagnosed tick-borne infections and Lyme disease cases. As NC Family Health LLC does offer options for Lyme disease treatment, we would like this take this time to discuss PREVENTABLE measures as the warmer weather is approaching. Utilizing herbal tick repellent sprays can be very beneficial. Remember to use high grade essential oils such as Doterra or Young... Living, as other oils may be filled with "fragrances" and other chemicals. Herbs to consider include garlic, lemongrass, eucalyptus, geranium, citronella, sweet-grass, rosemary, clove, lavender, peppermint etc. Oils should be added to glass spray bottles and can be used with carrier oils, vinegar or rubbing alcohol. Love gardening? Start planting these herbs outside of your house to reduce the number of ticks. To avoid getting bit, wear clothing that covers your skin when hiking, avoid areas of high grass, avoid sitting on logs, tuck your pants into your socks, keep your hair in a tight bun/braid and always inspect your clothes and body. Pay especially close attention to areas such as under the arms, behind your ears, belly button, under breast tissue, the back of your knees and hair. Having a tick remover in your bag/purse or at home is very important. Don't forget to check your pets as well! Keep in mind, chickens, opossums, guinea fowls and some species of birds are natural predators of ticks. If you do find a tick on your body suspecting a bite, remove the tick, place it in a small container or tape it somewhere where you won't lose it. There are labs where you can send the tick to assess for Lyme disease.

Are you someone who has been suffering from bloating, gas, diarrhea/constipation, abdominal pain, fatigue or even GERD? Have you been told that you have IBS, indigestion or that it is just anxiety? On average 60% of IBS is actually caused by SIBO, ranging up to 84% of the time. SIBO is small intestinal bacterial overgrowth meaning unwanted bacterial has accumulated in the small intestine causing these symptoms.... SIBO can be diagnosed via endoscopy, breath test or symptomatically. A breath test can indicate high amounts of methane or hydrogen gas, or even a combination. Depending on the gas type, a specific anti-biotic can be prescribed. Naturopathic treatment options include herbal anti-biotics paired with a low Fodmap diet or an elemental diet which are packets of predigested nutrients that are taken instead of meals. After successful SIBO treatments, the goal is to restore a healthy gut microbiome, support healthy gut integrity and preventing SIBO from reoccurring by various lifestyle changes. Questions?! Give our office a call at (717) 381-5773 or email us at [email protected]. Let us help you get to the root cause of your health concerns.

We have some new products in our office today! Because yes, seasonal allergies are still a thing!! Getting to the root cause when dealing with seasonal allergies goes right to gut health. Eating a whole food, plant based diet, decreasing/eliminating inflammatory foods such as dairy, gluten, alcohol etc. Are key. Our gut lining is 1 cell thick, or should I say thin. Maintaining healthy gut integrity and supporting the gut can be done with proper diet and supplementation. Howev...er as dietary changes take time, sometimes we just need a little extra help in to get us through the day. D-Hist for adults and D-Hist jr. For kids are excellent options to consider. Ingredients include: Vitamin C- A natural anti-oxidant that can decrease your body's histamine production to environmental triggers. Foods high in Vitamin C include broccoli, lemons, strawberries and oranges. Quercetin- Decreases pro-inflammatory cytokines and decreases IL-4 production making this a wonderful anti-allergy ingredient. Stinging Nettle- Great for hay fever, asthma and general inflammation due to it's ability to decrease the number of cytokines in the blood and acute phase proteins making this anti-inflammatory. Bromelain- A group of enzymes found in pineapple stems that reduces eosinophils and lymphocyte activation, again making this a key ingredient. NAC- a mucolytic agent, meaning decreases viscosity of mucus. Bonus, it is a precursor to glutathione, which is the body's master anti-oxidant. As I always tell my patients, you can't supplement a healthy diet. Again, when it comes to allergies, changing your diet is the #1 thing that you can do. However, these supplements will surely help you naturally manage the symptoms in the meantime. Not sure where to start with changing your diet? Wondering if these supplements are right for you? Easy, find yourself a Naturopathic Doctor who loves nutrition .
