Toad Detour at the Schuylkill Center

This group was created so Toad Detour volunteers can interact with one another. Please join if you have volunteered in the past or plan to in the future. The American toads thank you

It's going to be warm and wet these next few days! Toadlets really like these weather conditions. Come at any time of the day to help transport these little guys from the Roxborough Reservoir to the edge of the Schuylkill Center. Bring your own buckets/containers, spoons, and flashlights and reflective clothing if you are coming at night! A great social distancing activity to do with children. As we enter the yellow phase, continue to practice social distancing and personal safety. Bring your own flashlight, buckets, reflective vest and/or bright clothing. The toadlets are finally moving and they need your help. Toadlets are out day and night! Help them cross the road safely.

The Toad Detour first began as a volunteer-based effort to protect the American toad population of the Schuylkill Center and the Roxborough Reservoir. Each Spring, the toads emerge from hibernation and migrate to and from their breeding grounds which cross Port Royal Avenue. Lisa Levinson, the founder of Toad Detour, initiated the volunteer organization. Originally established as a separate organization, the Toad Detour is now an official program of the Schuylkill Center for ...Environmental Education many of you have come to love and participate in. Beginning Saturday, March 14 and continuing through the next two weeks until March 29, the Schuylkill Center will be exercising an abundance of caution by closing the Visitor Center. All public programs during these two weeks will be cancelled. This includes Toad Detour.
