Kathie Welsh Retires Kathie joined YBP when we purchased Collins Concrete in Hanover, PA in 1988. Kathie handled payroll, accounts receivable, dispatching and counter sales at Collins. After six years at the YBP Collins facility, she was transferred to the Loucks Mill plant to help increase retail sales of mortar, wire, bolts etc. After 15 years at Loucks Mill, Kathie moved to the corporate office as a Sales Coordinator assisting salesmen with quotes & orders, and sending or...ders to the correct plants for production. Kathie also oversaw the training of dispatchers and sales staff when YBP purchased new companies. Kathie and husband Kenny (who retired from PH Glatfelter in 2017) hope to do more camping and traveling once the pandemic is over. Kathie also likes spending time with her kids & grandchildren, attending their sporting events. Thank you, Kathie, for your many years of service to our team!

York Building Products supplied the Keystone Standard III retaining wall system and Mirafi geogrids (5XT, 7XT, 10XT & 20XT) for two large walls (32.7' and 36.0') that were installed at our Roosevelt Quarry in York, PA. The walls were necessary for the construction of a new asphalt plant for our sister company, York Materials Group. The walls were designed by Geo-Technology Associates, Inc., who also did the construction monitoring, and were installed by Griffith Brothers, Inc.

Our MagnumStone big block retaining wall system (wet cast/machine set) performs great in water applications. The 8 SF unit (2’H X 4’W X 2’D) weighs 1,400# and over a ton when filled with #57 stone. Whether it is an active waterway or one that becomes active during storm events, MagnumStone is up for the challenge. A scour analysis is normally required and additional embedment may be needed. Essentially, it is a 32"-long block unit with a center score, providing the appearance of two 16"-long units. York Building Products manufactured the Keystone Compac III segmental retaining wall system for the James Madison University Land Bridge project in Harrisonburg, VA. The project provides a safe pedestrian crossing for students on campus vs. a dangerous at-grade intersection. The Keystone wall system was built around a Contech SUPER-SPAN multi-plate steel system. The site soils required extensive improvements to provide adequate bearing capacity for the structure and the walls. Great job by all parties involved in this project: VMDO Architects (architect), VHB (civil engineer), W.M. Jordan (GC), Partners Excavating Company (site contractor) and Fine Earth (wall installer)!

The Stewart Companies’ Apple Automotive Group is proud to be a signature sponsor of a new community meal service in York County. With all that is happening to our community with regard to COVID-19, the Apple Automotive group was eager to work with the Altland House Hospitality Group (AHHG) to get this service off the ground for those in need. AHHG developed this new curbside food pick-up service to be served at the Wyndham Garden York in West Manchester (behind Walmart). They... will provide hearty meals for a flat $5 cost per person. Food is served on a first-come, first-served basis, and is available from Tuesdays through Saturdays from 2P to 6P. You can learn more on their Facebook page, where menus will be posted each day. The Facebook page also provides a donor link for community businesses and supporters to help this important effort to aid York countians get through this pandemic.

Hearing Lancaster General was in dire need of N95 masks, the team at our New Holland block plant searched through our inventory, and were fortunate enough to locate 200 masks that we could donate. Thank you Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health and all of the healthcare workers on the front lines battling this pandemic. You are putting yourselves at risk to keep us and our loved ones safe. We are truly grateful.
