Noodle boards, stove covers or stovetop cutting boards... whatever you call them, they can be dangerous. Their rise in popularity brought a question from a concerned citizen to us... how do I use these safely? If you have a gas stove, you can easily trap gas underneath the board, leading to dangerous levels in your home or kitchen. Even though some new gas stoves do not have a pilot light (ever-burning flame to ignite your burners on demand), most gas stoves still do. Any ...flame produces heat and by covering a pilot light with a wooden board, you have provided all the necessary elements to start a fire. On electric stoves or ranges, burners may be accidentally left on or turned on while covered. With the popularity of front mounted knobs, burners could be turned on during cleaning or by children and go unnoticed until it's too late. Simply put, these are highly decorative items that can cause a fire. It is our recommendation that you refrain from their use.

We are in search of training props to set up realistic scenarios for our members to train with. If you have access to any of the following items or know of someone who may, please send us a message. All items would be on a donated basis and would be returned to you if you desire. Please read below for the conditions of the return. We have means to pick up and return the items. *Bobcat or skid steer loader ... *Mini Excavator *Forklift *Garden tractor or Zero turn mower *Snow Blowers *other small construction machines such as cement mixers, skid steer attachments, etc. The items above would be used to simulate trapped persons and would be cut, bent, manipulated, etc. The ideal donated machine would be something that is not running or operative. We would take anything that is damaged, burned, missing parts, etc. Again, we would be causing damage to these machines to simulate real life rescue scenarios. And when we are done using these, we can arrange to scrap them or return them to you. Unfortunately, we do not currently have the means to buy these items from you. Lastly, we are on the lookout for a 10-20' sea container/storage container to store training props. We can also arrange to have this moved. Please share this post, as we are reaching out for help from you. Thank you!

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of St Thomas Deputy Chief Adam McNew. Chief McNew's sudden passing this morning while beginning his shift as a 911 telecommunicator leaves many of us in disbelief and shock. The fire service is a gigantic family and no matter what department you serve, losing one of your own at a young age will forever impact you. Thank you Chief; we have it from here.

Campfires or any other open burning is not permitted in the Michaux State Forest until further notice. Dry conditions and early leaf drop have created a very fire-prone environment. This campfire ban includes the Appalachian Trail corridor. #PAStateForests #PAWildfire

Thank you to the Borough of Waynesboro for allowing us to place lights in the square this year. With more of us at home during these times, it is most important to have an escape plan, check your smoke detectors and visually check your home for anything that could be a fire hazard. Not sure? Give us a call or send us a message!

Beginning the morning of Monday, September 28th, Washington Township Blvd will be paved between Tomstown Rd & Gehr Rd. The roadway between these points will be closed for approximately 2 weeks from 06:30 am until 5:30 pm. This is all contingent on the weather. Plan accordingly.
