Exactly one month ago, on September 16th, we held a virtual Town Hall with our community partners @yasprojectphilly , @mvmalliance and @reclaimphiladelphia , intended to highlight voices of youth that have been directly impacted by the carceral system, parents of incarcerated youth, and community stakeholders. We were led by strong youth voices from @yasprojectphilly as well as @thevillagephilly, members of the @phillydefenders Associationwe were also incredibly lucky to ha...ve with us City Council Members @helengymphl , @kendraphlcouncil , and @councilmemberjg , who spoke to the role that city leaders should play when it comes to young peoples’ safety the importance to #freeouryouth. The virtual town hall followed continued action to engage officials to address the growing concern for incarcerated youth, who, to this day, remain vulnerable to COVID-19 without immediate action from local leaders. #freeouryouth

This past May, we partnered with The Youth Art & Self-empowerment Project to demand that the courts, the mayor, and the District Attorney’s office #FreeOurYouth. We held a caravan that met at the Juvenile Justice Services Center in West Philadelphia where roughly 120 youth were incarcerated at that time to urge elected officials and court representatives to release youth to keep them safe, especially amidst a global pandemic. We heard from local organizers and directly impacted youth as well as parents of incarcerated youth on the urgency of maintaining pressure to get youth home. We firmly believe that youth belong where they can be supported, in their communities. Not behind bars. CareNotControl.com Posters by Performing Statistics

New Justice Campaign In the throws of the COVID-19 pandemic, formerly incarcerated youth and youth advocates forged ahead to organize this justice campaign to end youth incarceration in PA. We launched on Oct. 14 by sharing our demands with PA’s Task Force on Youth Justice.... During October and November we will take in-person and virtual actions that urge decision-makers to enact and uphold the demands. And during 2021, we will work to hold decision-makers accountable, ensuring they use Care, not Control to #freeouryouth! Stay with us, and stand with us. Why are we continuing to invest in a system plagued by wasteful government spending, racial discrimination, and life-altering trauma? Today, we launched Care Not Control alongside The Youth Art & Self-empowerment Project and The Youth Art & Self-empowerment Project to demand an end to youth incarceration and call for reinvestment in community-based supports, services, and opportunities for youth. See our full list of demands here: Carenotcontrol.com

Youth don't belong in jail or prison. Under normal circumstances, youth prisons (and all prisons) are extremely harmful, and with #COVID19, the situation has go...tten so much worse - both to the youth on the inside and to their loved ones worrying on the outside. City leaders in #Philly have dragged their feet and failed to protect incarcerated youth from the #COVID19 pandemic. TONIGHT at 6 ET, join the incredible and dedicated folks at Village of Arts & Humanities @YASP2 and @reclaimphila as they host a virtual town hall. We will be hearing from currently and formerly incarcerated young people, their families, and stakeholders about the urgent need to bring young people home. Help us demand action from our city's leaders! The pandemic is not going away anytime soon, and the time for systems leaders to act is long overdue. #prisonsdontwork #fucovid19 #freetheyouth #freethemall #virtualtownhall Watch on Facebook Live https://www.facebook.com/events/2017630738368047 To get zoom information, register here: https://zoom.us//regi/tJcvcuqhrj0iEtELHIFaVlcc-JkfX1mFOEjc.
