Attached is a list of emergency food items that are needed to make sure that all children will have enough food to get through the COVID-19 operational period. ...These are items much like we use in the weekend backpack program. This food will be used as additional food for the children above what they will be receiving at our sites. We will have drop off sites for these items at the Bellefonte YMCA, Moshannon Valley YMCA, Penns Valley Program Center, and the State College YMCA. In addition, we have drop off sites at "Hi-Way Pizza" in Philipsburg, and "Joey's To Go" in Philipsburg. If you know of any location that may be interested in being a drop off site please let me know. See more

UBBC is honored to display "Until All of Us Are Free", an 8 foot by 20 foot mural created by State College Friends Middle School students in 2019. Here's how the students describe their work: "This painting was based on Martin Luther King Jr.’s mugshot taken on his way to jail in Birmingham, Alabama. King was jailed for protesting segregation and working for civil rights. It was from this jail cell that he wrote Letter from a Birmingham Jail. This letter is important be...cause it underscores the nonviolent approach to civil disobedience. The portrait was painted using our fingerprints and different paint colors. The thumbprints on the other panels represent statistics about the murders of Blacks in America. There are 3,446 white thumbprints for the 3,446 Blacks lynched in America between 1882 and 1968 (Tuskegee Institute). There are 223 red thumbprints for the 223 Blacks fatally shot by police in America during 2017. This is 23% of the total amount of fatal police shootings (987) in America in 2017, yet Blacks make up only 13% of the American population. This shows conscious and unconscious racial bias among the American police force. The names surrounding King’s portrait are some of the recent victims of police brutality. The King quotes displayed here are important because they make us confront our privilege and do better." UBBC will host the mural through January 30. Any local organization or event that wants to display this free-standing 8' by 20' mural free of charge, please email Friends School at [email protected] to make arrangements.
