The recycling community lost a respected friend and colleague early Sunday morning. George Jucha of Independent Recycling in Pittsburgh was killed in a head-on collision with a drunk driver going the wrong way on the highway. God Bless George and deepest condolences to his loved ones.

Fugitive Tire Wrap Up: Part 2 Due to the large costs associated with disposing of these illegally dumped tires, a huge thanks goes out to our sponsors: Dominio...n Foundation and Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, EHS InfoLink, Forbes Trail Chapter Trout Unlimited, MAX Environmental Technologies, Toll Gate Auto Parts, Western Pennsylvania Antique Automobile Club of America, and donations from the 2015 Day of Giving. Partners in the program also played a very important role. This year the partners included Penn Township, St. Clair Cemetery Association, and Adam Eidemiller Inc. See more
The Westmoreland County Veterans Monument, which stood previously on the Museum grounds, is scheduled to be dedicated and unveiled in Courthouse Square in downtown Greensburg on Memorial Day Monday, May 25 at 1 PM. The dedication is open to all who wish to attend.
Here is a rare treat for those of you who are interested in the automobile salvage industry. We sent Gocheck out into the yard with a camera yesterday, and he shot this video by accident. It gives you a glimpse, albeit a shaky one, at life in a salvage yard. In this video, Gocheck: - climbs into the wheel well of a vehicle to inspect the seam of a door on an adjacent vehicle - gets run down by a yard man... - gets interrogated by the sales staff who can't wait to have the pictures uploaded (Note: one of them actually leaves to go inspect the door himself before viewing the pictures, making the entire trip a complete waste of time.) If you think Gocheck deserves a little love for all he does, hit that 'Like' button and share our video. Enjoy!
A "Wish-Cycler" Truth: Keep up the good work. In 1970 and the First Earth Day, the EPA documented that Americans recycled 8 million tons of material, equivalen...t to at a 6.6% recycling rate. In 2012 (the most up to date data), although Americans generated more trash, we also recycled and composted almost 87 million tons of material, equivalent to a 34.5 percent recycling rate See more

Recycling a used, OEM car part is not unsafe. How can it be? We are all driving around every day with used, OEM parts in our vehicles. Reusing these parts is environmentally responsible and not the least bit unsafe.

Did you know? Each ton (2000 pounds) of recycled paper can save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, three cubic yards of landfill space, 4000 kilowatts of energy, and 7000 gallons of water. This represents a 64% energy savings, a 58% water savings, and 60 pounds less of air pollution!
Did you know? Because so many of them are recycled, aluminum cans account for less than 1% of the total U.S. waste stream, according to EPA estimates.
Did you know? If you need to properly dispose of used fluorescent light bulbs, Scott Electric on Main Street in Greensburg, Pennsylvania will take them for a small fee. (84 cents each for the 8 foot tubes)
Did you know? Shop Demo Depot in Mt. Pleasant, PA, will recycle most electronic items for you. They also resell construction material.

Did you know? The energy saved from recycling one glass bottle can run a 100-watt light bulb for four hours or a compact fluorescent bulb for 20 hours. It also causes 20% less air pollution and 50% less water pollution than when a new bottle is made from raw materials.
Did you know? Recycling plastic saves twice as much energy as burning it in an incinerator.
Our first official "emergency" run to our newly opened, neighborhood Harbor Freight Tools store netted us this little gem.
The Recycling Center is open Mondays Noon-7:00pm, Wednesdays and Fridays 8:00am-1:00pm and the 2nd Saturday of every month 8:30-Noon... rain or snow. However, in the case of extreme weather, call the office or check our facebook page to make sure the Recycling Center is open.

Did you know? Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to run a TV for three hours -- or the equivalent of a half a gallon of gasoline.
The Covered Device Recycling Act (CDRA), Act 108 of 2010, made it illegal to get rid of computer equipment and televisions in Pennsylvania with municipal waste. In Westmoreland County, you can dispose of these items at Westmoreland Cleanways. http://www.westmorelandcleanways.org//Recycling-Ctr-Flyer.
Did you know? Motor oil never wears out, it just gets dirty. Oil can be recycled, re-refined and used again, reducing our reliance on imported oil.
We have a 2005 Chevy Cobalt for sale. It has just under 80,000 miles on it and very light damage in the left front. Stop in and see this very clean car.
Did you know? A single quart of motor oil, if disposed of improperly, can contaminate up to 2,000,000 gallons of fresh water.
Maybe we should make a sign like this.
Did you know? Every month, we throw out enough glass bottles and jars to fill up a giant skyscraper. All of these jars are recyclable!
We listed some parts from this vehicle on eBay today. It is a 2009 Ford Fusion with only 57,000 miles on it. These parts and many more are in-stock and available right now. Call us and see how we can help you make your next repair more economical.
Did you know? Americans use 2,500,000 plastic bottles every hour. Most of them are thrown away.

Did you know? A used aluminum can is recycled and back on the grocery shelf as a new can, in as little as 60 days. That's closed loop recycling at its finest!
Did you know? Greensburg, Pennsylvania will accept, and properly dispose of, automobile waste you generate in your home. Many places will accept your used motor oil free of charge. We can do that. We have large storage tanks on site and we use it in a waste oil furnace to heat our shop and part of the warehouse. But we can't process things like fluorescent light bulbs or brake fluid on site. We have to pay to have hazardous waste removed. The City of Greensburg, however, will... take hazardous waste that you might generate in the home for free. You need to order a kit and schedule a special pickup. The details are here: http://www.greensburgpa.org/content/view/15/1/
Did you know? Pittsburgh will accept, and properly dispose of, automobile waste you generate in your home. Many places will accept your used motor oil free of charge. We can do that. We have large storage tanks on site and we use it in a waste oil furnace to heat our shop and part of the warehouse. But we have to pay someone to take tires, so we have to charge a small fee to take old tires. The City of Pittsburgh will take used tires free of charge. The details are here:... http://pittsburghpa.gov/dpw/drop-off-information
