I know this family and the people in the posting...this is such a fantastic God moment--it made me cry tears of joy and sorrow. Here's the story Most of you may not realize that my mother lived with my ex-husband. Mind blown? You’re not alone. People are fascinated by this story. My mom moved down to SEPA in Nov 2013 and into my home. It was just really obvious she shouldn’t be living alone any longer as her dementia was starting to impact her daily living and we wer...e worried about her safety. She lived with me and Dan for about 3 months and then one day I took her to Rob’s to visit the kids while I got my hair done. When I got back, she refused to leave. She was pretty frantic. Rob suggested she spend the night there to calm down and that she’d likely forget about her agitation in the morning. Unfortunately, she remembered everything in the morning and begged Rob to allow her to live there. We believe the reason why is Rob’s house is where he and I lived while married and it was familiar and comfortable to her whereas she didn’t know my home until after dementia already set in. Whatever the reason, he took compassion on her. My mom was NOT easy to live with. She resisted things that would have make her (and thus Rob’s) life easier, she was stubborn, belligerent, and even hit Rob from time to time. She mellowed somewhat with time, but never really lost that sense of defiance. Although I was her daughter, Rob was her primary caregiver. He handled the brunt of the everyday challenges with caring for an elderly person with dementia. The whole situation is an example of Rob’s kindness, compassion, and love. He is one of the strongest people I know. One in a million. Rob, I could never really adequately thank you for all of your sacrifice over the last 7 years. You were truly the son she never had. She loved you as you did her. She left an indelible mark on your house and your life. Thank you for caring for her and loving her as much as you did. See more
