St Luke's Trappe 04.12.2020

Hebrews 6:10 God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. Reflection There is so much need in our world today. The question is not where, but how. How do I respond to those in need, especially considering today’s environment?... The answer to the how is really simple. God is a still speaking God even through the midst of Covid-19, God need not worry about social distancing or staying at home because the God we worship is not at stay at home God. The God we worship is a mobile God. Where ever we are, what ever we are doing, God is with us. And I am certain of this; if we are paying attention God will put in our way the ones who’s need is the greatest. That is just the way God works! Hymn The Servant Song Will you let me be your servant Let me be as Christ to you Pray that I might have the grace To let you be my servant too We are pilgrims on the journey We are travellers on the road We are here to help each other Walk the mile and bear the load I will hold the Christ light for you In the night time of your fear I will hold my hand out to you Speak the the peace you long to hear. I will weep when you are weeping When you laugh, I'll laugh with you I will share your joy and sorrow Till we've seen this journey through Will you let me be your servant Let me be as Christ to you Pray that I might have the grace To let you be my servant too Prayer Still speaking God, my world has become much smaller. My ability to interact with others face to face is almost non-existent. I long to have a spontaneous conversation with anyone without the barrier of a mask that covers my face. That will come one day, but until that day comes, make me aware of the needs of others. Put into my pathway those who need to experience the love of Christ who in humble obedience, washed the feet of his disciple. May I go and do likewise. I pray a special prayer for hospital staff who clean patients and who clean floors. Who prepare meals and dump bed pans, The ones who quietly go about serving you by caring for the needs of others. In your holy name I pray, Amen.

Genesis 17:1-8 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said to him, I am God Almighty;[a] walk before me, and be blameless. 2 And I will make my covenant between me and you, and will make you exceedingly numerous. 3 Then Abram fell on his face; and God said to him, 4 As for me, this is my covenant with you: You shall be the ancestor of a multitude of nations. 5 No longer shall your name be Abram,[b] but your name shall be Abraham;[c] for I hav...Continue reading

Genesis 4:4-5 And Abel also brought an offeringfat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The LORD looked with favor on Abel and his offering, 5 but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast. Reflection I am not sure how familiar you are with the story of Cain and Able. They were the sons of Adam and Eve. Their relationship was a tragic one. When Cain killed Able it was the first recorded murder in...Continue reading

Genesis 1:26 Then God said, ‘Let us make humankind[a] in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth,[b] and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.’ Reflection How would you answer the question, Where do you see the hand of God in this pandemic?... To be honest with you, I thought by now there would have been those voices out there proclaiming that covid-19 is the wrath of God on a sinful world. (May be there is and I just haven’t heard them!) Historically, humanity has always been quick to blame God when things go awry. Be it tornados, floods, fire, or war, there has always been those who understand them all as the wrath of an angry God. Understanding God as wrathful has never been part of my theology. In fact, I believe that the primary reason that Jesus Christ came was so that humanity could finally hear and see the true nature of God. God, incarnate in the person of Jesus was compassionate, caring, and forgiving, the one we are called to emulate, and the one in whose image I am made. May it be so! Hymn o Refrain: All things bright and beautiful, All creatures great and small, All things wise and wonderful: The Lord God made them all. 2. Each little flow’r that opens, Each little bird that sings, He made their glowing colors, He made their tiny wings. 3. The purple-headed mountains, The river running by, The sunset and the morning That brightens up the sky. 4. The cold wind in the winter, The pleasant summer sun, The ripe fruits in the garden, He made them every one. 5. The tall trees in the greenwood, The meadows where we play, The rushes by the water, To gather every day. 6. He gave us eyes to see them, And lips that we might tell How great is God Almighty, Who has made all things well. Prayer Loving God, your love for me is overwhelming at times. I feel as though I do not deserve the goodness you shower upon me. There are times I am neglectful of thanking you. Forgive me, loving God. May I truly feel your presence in my life this day and find comfort in knowing you will never forsake me. Enable me today to reflect your image as I serve you. Be with all of those people in government who are making decisions that will affect all of humanity. May their judgment be based on the good for all people and not just a few. Grant them the wisdom of Solomon and the compassion of Christ in whose name I pray. Amen

First Samuel 17:48-49 48 When the Philistine drew nearer to meet David, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet the Philistine. 49 David put his hand in his bag, took out a stone, slung it, and struck the Philistine on his forehead; the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell face down on the ground. Reflection The story of David and Goliath is one of the most well-known stories of the Bible. I would even submit to you, that people who have never read the Bible kn...Continue reading
