Opening up older homes to fit today's preferences can be challenging. During extensive renovations of this house we replaced first floor rear windows with doors, and then brightened the central interior by replacing a section of stone wall with a 2-story window bay that frames a new staircase. Additions to either side give the main original house the breadth to maintain its proportions and presence (and keep some side windows). This project has been completed for a few years now, but still reinforces the idea that renovations to classic structures can enhance the desired timeless qualities of older buildings.

Where we're headed at Roberts Block.

Pinard Architecture and Interiors is working with Midgard Properties and SER Building Associates on a gem of a building in Glenside, PA. Known as Roberts Block, it was designed by architect E. Allen Wilson in 1915. The vacant and waterlogged building retains enough original detail to be renovated back to being a classic part of the context between the train station and the adjacent residential neighborhood. Plans are for shops on the ground floor and apartments above. 6,000 square feet.
