I wanted to share a #Flashback Friday because I was going through footage and remember this performance so clearly. I was so excited to be a part of the Lena Horne Tribute at my college Going to a music school, you learn so much about your gift.... This performance was my toughest one yet, 2 hours standing, singing multiple songs, dancing in heels and leading 4 songs and to top it off I was SICK SICK. *Advice listen to your body and take care of it. As a performer it is important to take vitamins, rest, eat well and exercise. I learned to trust myself, trust the music and trust my peers that day. I was blessed to do this tribute with some amazing women who have gone on to do AMAZING things in theatre, music, education and beyond all over the world. Fear is one of the things we really tackle at Arts without Boundaries Through conversation, exercises and allowing students' to face their personal insecurities and anxieties sprouts confident performers who understand that to become your best self you have to push through no matter how hard. The arts as a child is a window into a world of color, self expression and imagination. Arts should not be a maybe but a MUST as a child. During story time have your child act out a page, make a good morning song to sing when they wake up or turn the music up loud and allow them to dance around the living room. ...
