"It was a little weird, but I could still feel the audience's energy," Nishihara says. "If anything, we're dancing more than ever before for each other, as dancers."

It’s world mental health day. Remember that taking care of your mind, heart, and soul is the most important part of your dance training. You can look great on the outside, but feel totally miserable on the inside, and that’s not ok. You are not alone. If you need help, ask. #philadelphiadancetheatre #worldmentalhealthday2020 #wearepdt #weloveourdancers #takecareofyourself

Parents, a terrific help for your kiddos when virtual schooling gets hard for them. Try Brain Dance by Anne Greene Gilbert. Can be done with any improvisation of movement. This is a great way to start the day or pre-test exercise to focus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09D6nzECac0

This is the kind of mindful, well-rounded training PDT provides dancers in the pre-professional division. Pilates supports a dancer’s physical body to avoid injury and improves alignement to dance smarter. However, dancers in the hands of our Pilates instructor, Thalia Barrows get so much more. As a former dancer, she imparts invaluable information to them to work smarter, and more efficiently and with plasticity, offering dancers the agency to improve in less time. She is o...ur dancers secret weapon, providing an ammunition of information to understand how their individual bodies work best. In Pilates, Thalia reminds us that less if more when it's executed with intention. lengthen strengthens aligns and frees movement Wednesdays 4:45 zoom spots available! #philadelphiadancetheatre #pdtprepro #pilates #pilateswiththalia #weloveourdancers #weloveourteachers

Reading readiness has a lot to do with the physical body. Today’s kids sit more than ever. They are pushed to be academic, while developmental readiness is often overlooked. Kids need to build 2 important physical skills. Motor skills and reading eye movement scan left to right. This readiness does not come from workbooks or reading apps. Literacy is hard work and that work is play! How does a pre-ballet class build these skills? Glad you... asked! Gross motor movement -crossing the midline. Jumping, skipping, leaping, and sweeping. Use of props (scarves and beanies bags) to build eye scan and hand eye coordination. Storytelling through movement. Fine motor skills - hand games, rhythm, and clapping. Listening skills are enhanced through cooperative learning, taking turns, following directions, and beautiful music accompaniment. PDT has 3 levels of Pre-Ballet divided by age and a different syllabus for each group that is developmentally appropriate. Kids can take the games and dancing in class and use them for inspiration in the yard. Register your little dancer for a free trial class today.
