We would like to take a second and talk about how awesome our EMTs are, it is National EMS Week after all! Traditionally every year during this week the Chester County EMS Council holds their annual award ceremony to celebrate the incredible and heroic accomplishments of EMS providers across Chester County. But, as you can guess, 2020 had something else in store for our staff to keep them busy and the event last year had to be cancelled. Last night the EMS Council was able to... return to holding the event virtually, and Union EMS crushed it. We are extremely proud to share with you that our talented EMS staff members were honored SIX TIMES during the event for saving lives in the Oxford community! Each Union crew recognized received clinical life-saving commendations for resuscitating victims of sudden cardiac arrest. Sudden cardiac arrest has a pre-hospital survival rate of less than 12 percent. Later in the presentation, our Deputy EMS Chief Gary Vinnacombe was awarded the Margaret Hoover Brigham award for his work to further EMS as the President of the EMS Council in 2019 and 2020. Chaz Brogan, Chief of Good Fellowship Ambulance honored Deputy Chief Vinnacombe’s effort by saying, Gary’s work and dedication during the pandemic was simply outstanding. In addition to coordinating EMS operations at his own stations, he was there daily, sometimes hourly to share guidance to EMS leadership throughout Chester County. Gary’s collaborative effort with the Chester County Department of Emergency Services, Chester County Fire Chiefs Association, Chester County Fire Police Association, Chester County Police Chiefs Association, and Chester County FOP made Chester County a safer place in it’s response to COVID-19. We believe our EMS Providers are some of the best in the business. If you see them out working in the community this week, please give them a thumbs up and wish them a great EMS week. They certainly deserve it!
