Monday kicks off our annual Holiday Heroes drive. The Community Blood Bank is inviting first responders - military, police, fire, EMS & others - and their loved ones to donate blood in honor of their organization. This runs from December 14th-Dec. 31st. All donors will receive a long-sleeve t-shirt to thank you for saving local lives. Plus, the CBB is also offering antibody testing through December 2020. The organization with the most donors will earn bragging rights for the ...year! APPOINTMENTS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED! The Community Blood Bank is open at 2646 Peach Street in Erie Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Wednesday 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. & Saturday 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. The Community Blood Bank is closed on Christmas Day, December 26th and New Years Day. We also have adjusted hours on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. We are also open at 2646 Peach Street special hours on Sunday, December 20th from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

The Community Blood Bank is open for those with APPOINTMENTS ONLY Saturday, December 12, 2020! Our appointment schedule is completely full for Saturday, and any walk-in donors will be asked to join us on a different day. In order to ensure CDC safety protocols, CBB is limiting donors. Appointments are STRONGLY encouraged or you may be asked to join us a different day when presenting to the Erie Donor Center or a mobile blood drive. It was Erie Restoration, Inc. morning at the Community Blood Bank Thursday! Thank you to the ERI employees who came out to help save local lives. ERI approached the CBB about hosting a blood drive, however, they are a smaller company. So instead of having a blood drive at their facility, they encouraged their employees to come to our location at 2646 Peach Street in Erie. We are always looking for new partners to host blood drives at their organization or business, but we ca...n also have sponsored weeks or days here at the Erie Donor Center in honor of your business or organization. If you are a small business or a business not operating on site due to the pandemic, please contact us about opportunities to still give back to the local community during this time of need.

! Check out these awesome students who donated blood at our recent blood drive at EHS in Russell, PA. We are so thankful for the dozens of student donors we see every year. Typically, high school and college students make up about 20% of our total blood collections. This year, that has significantly decreased due to the COVID-19 pandemic. ... Thank you, Amserv LTD Dusan Community Ambulance, for hosting a blood drive with us last night! This blood drive saw nearly 40 donors, helping to impact the lives of 120 local lives. Amserv LTD Dusan Community Ambulance is a newer blood drive partner with us hosting their first blood drive earlier this year. It's because of these partnerships more lives can be saved through blood donation. Thank you to all of the businesses and organizations who partner with the CBB help the local community.

"I wanted to help people. I've never donated before. Knowing I wasn't sick (anymore) and I still had the antibodies, I wanted to give someone a fighting chance." JoAnne A. contracted COVID in June. Now, she wants to help give back to those who are critically ill with the virus she was able to fight off by donating her plasma. The CBB is also now offering COVID antibody testing to all donors in an effort to help identify more potential convalescent plasma donors to help the local patients in need. Happy National First Responders Day! Thank you to all of the first responders who are dedicated to saving lives. Did you know the Community Blood Bank supplies type O- blood to seven Stat MedEvac bases throughout our region. When you see a Stat MedEvac helicopter flying above, it could mean a local patient needed life-saving blood products. We continue to face a critical blood shortage. Donate blood with the Community Blood Bank and receive a COVID antibody test now through November 30, 2020. The antibody test can help us recognize more potential convalescent plasma (CCP) donors. The Community Blood Bank is seeking potential COVID-19 CCP donors to help increase the area supply of this important treatment. CCP is a plasma donation that also contains the SARS-CoV-2 antibodies within the plasma. Transfusing these antibodies through plasma is one of the approved treatments for patients hospitalized with COVID-19. The Community Blood Bank is having a deep cleaning of its facility performed after one employee tests positive for COVID-19. The staff member has not worked since Tuesday, October 20, 2020. The Community Blood Bank was notified Friday afternoon of the positive test result and is working closely with the Erie County Department of Health. Bonded Services Corp. is performing a deep cleaning of the facility Friday evening. ... The Community Blood Bank is committed to ensuring the safety of our donors and staff, said Deanna Renaud, executive director of the Community Blood Bank. We will continue to enforce the safety guidelines put in place by the CDC. These safety measures include: the use of masks by staff and donors at all times, all personnel at all blood collection locations are required to take their temperatures prior to entering the blood drive, extra sanitation is performed between every donor, and donors and staff are to adhere to social distancing protocols. The Community Blood Bank will be open Saturday under normal business hours.

Today we celebrate - COVID friendly style - our special products coordinator Sara Macerata. Sara is getting married next week. Sara has been a member of the CBB family for years, and we are very happy for her! Congratulations Sara and Sasha! Superstar shout out to our very loyal donor, Robert W. Robert came in Thursday morning for his 115 donation. This is just over 14 gallons of blood products donated. Because of this, Robert has helped save the lives of more than 300 patients in the local hospitals. Robert switched to donating platelets in 2019. He has also donated whole blood and double reds, so he is definitely an all-star donor! ... Thank you, Robert, for all you have done for not only the Community Blood Bank, but more so, for the local community!

Open late! We are open on Wednesday evenings until 7 p.m. Donate blood ONE MORE time in 2020 and help us get out of this critical blood shortage. One more half hour of your time could mean a lifetime to a patient in need. Most blood types are currently at a less-than-one-day supply for the local hospitals.
