Today we want to salute a group of people who are vastly under appreciated....the volunteers of Bradford County. There are so many ways people volunteer. The ...first we usually think about are our fire and ambulance people, and yes, they are in dire need of volunteers. But there are others out there that you don't think about. How about the American Red Cross (help at blood drives), the Scouts (become a Scout leader), church organizations, Big Brother/Big Sister (mentoring a young boy or girl), Area Agency on Aging (delivering meals to our seniors); humane shelters (taking care of the animals) or at a senior center. This is just a very short list of ways you can volunteer. It only takes a little bit of your time, but the rewards are tremendous. If you decide to volunteer, the organization will be able to provide you with training to do the job. Just a word of caution, some of these organizations do require a background check, but that is usually quick and easy, and can be done online. Not only do the volunteers give their time, but their families do too. We do not think about the family that has to have Christmas without their parent because he/she is needed somewhere else, or the parent who misses the school program because they were called to help. With that being said, we want to thank and honor all those that volunteer their time either within Bradford County or outside of the county and the families that stay home while their loved one is away.
