As architects and engineers, it is our professional responsibility to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the people in our buildings and the environment in which they inhabit. The most effective way for us to do this is to significantly decarbonize the built environment now. Now on the #Blog #ECVoices http://ow.ly/2Ich50EKjnM
All of us EwingCole are proud to celebrate and honor the legacies and contributions of Asian-Americans, Pacific Islanders and South Asians who enrich the design profession every day while carving out a path forward for the next generation.

Pfizer's St. Louis Development Lab in Chesterfield is one of three of the company's sites used as initial U.S. manufacturing centers for #COVID19 vaccine production. The dual-purpose 285,000 SF R&D building, designed in collaboration between EwingCole, Clayco , Inc. and Lamar Johnson Collaborative, combines both research and development labs with office and meeting spaces to create one of the most progressive facilities in the pharma industry. https://lnkd.in/dcXUSAq This award-winning facility is the primary location for the production of the raw materials needed to make the vaccine. Pfizer and BioNTech announced Monday that their current vaccine candidate saw a 90% effectiveness rate in its ongoing stage 3 clinical trial.

To continue assisting Brooklyn’s medically underserved patient community, give residents improved access to local care, and meet the growing healthcare needs of neighborhoods undergoing tremendous demographic changes and unprecedented growth, The Brooklyn Hospital Center required a new outpatient environment. EwingCole planned and designed the new, 45,000 SF Physicians Pavilion to house more than 20 specialties across six different floors. The interior spaces, inspired by hospitality environments, include a mix of rich materials and bold color palettes that change from floor to floor, giving each its character. http://ow.ly/NxyK50BmjyW
Thank you for the acknowledgment, AIA Long Island.
WATCH: How can healthcare systems better prepare for a second wave or the next pandemic? What role does simulation modeling play in the process? Alice Gittler, our director of healthcare research and engagement, joins Building Design + Construction Magazine's web series, The Weekly, to share how her team is helping healthcare systems better prepare for the distant, and not-so-distant, future.
Congratulations, Maria!
The key difference between indoor and outdoor spaces during a pandemic is air recirculation and filtration, but is it better or worse for managing the spread of #COVID19 between groups of people occupying a single space? We asked one of our engineers.
Since it’s 1910 opening, the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History’s main halls were bathed in natural light, showcasing its prehistoric specimens in full view. The skylight was sealed after a series of renovations between the '60s and early 2000s, leaving some of the museum’s most notable specimens in the dark. Our lighting designers saw the potential in its reopening.
We view design as a response to the collective experiences of individuals and communities from all walks of life. It’s because of them that we celebrate equality this month, and every month, with our colleagues, clients, families and neighbors. From all of us at EwingCole, #HappyPrideMonth
This year, the EwingCole's lighting group submitted a record number of projects for consideration in the annual Illuminating Engineering Society (ISE) lighting awards. It was wonderful to see so many of our projects recognized, representing a variety of our different market segments. Submissions were judged both at the local level as part of the Philadelphia ISE section as well as internationally with all submissions. Thank you for the recognition. Winners: Villanova University, Philadelphia Phillies, University of Pennsylvania, Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History, Rutgers University
The use of ultraviolet light as a disinfection protocol isn’t a new concept, and over the past few decades has evolved into several technologies, each with their benefits and limitations. But in the wake of #COVID19, should we consider UV as a useful supplement to traditional disinfecting methods?
Existing hospitals were underprepared to accommodate a sudden surge of infectious patients with so many variables: How is the virus transmitted? Who is infectious? When would peak surge occur? The biggest question we want to answer is how can we prepare our emergency departments for events like this again in the future?
