In my twenties, I secured an opportunity to live and work in Wuhan, China. This family invited me into their multigenerational home and showed me how to make dumplings. Our nation is at a crossroads where we can reckon with making an ethnicity, faith or difference a scapegoat for problems we are choosing not to face head-on. We can turn the pain we are feeling as a nation into a lesson to really see one another and value the human life within.
