From Janice Cotrone: It's back to school! Haiti was hit by COVID-19 like the rest of the world, and the President put the country on lockdown. Sadly, we had to close the School of Nursing and send our students home. Professors were amazing, and without internet resources we take for granted in the US, they were able to keep in contact with each student and finish the spring trimester. However, the entire summer session was lost. We are now open again and classes have re...sumed. We anticipate finishing the academic year mid-December (instead of early August). I have just returned and am so encouraged with our professors and students. The virus made its way to the island, but our students were armed and ready. Many voluntarily cared for patients in their homes and I am told because of their actions a number of lives were saved. YES! We did not accept a new cohort of students this fall, but are focused on finishing the school year with those presently enrolled. We will begin a new academic year in January. Prospective students are already applying for entrance! We will graduate 2 cohorts of students in January, 2021, the Lord willing. I am teaching Professional Development to seniors this fall. I return in 2 weeks and am anxious to see how they are doing on their assignments. We have a great group of senior students who will be incredible nurses in just a few months! Thank you, thank you for your prayers and support of the School of Nursing. We are making a difference! I recently spoke with the office of the Minister of Health and their words to me were, "You have a very good school. You are doing a good job for Haiti." Thank you, Jesus! Thank you, supporters! Thank you, prayer warriors! YES!!!
