As District Deputy Grand Master, I had the pleasure of presenting the Pennsylvania Masonic Youth Foundation's Grand Lodge Higher Education Renewing Three-Year ...Scholarship and Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania Acacia Scholarship to two twin sisters whose mother had passed away several years earlier. That is a horrible situation under normal circumstances, and it was for them as well. Young women growing up without a mother breaks your heart. But then, two years later, their house burnt down. When I presented them with the scholarships, they were living separately, one with each set of grandparents, since their grandparents’ houses were closer to their individual jobs. Both women were eligible for the scholarships since their grandfather is a member of University Lodge No. 51, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After finding out their family history, I relayed their story to the lodge almoner, and the lodge voted to give each of them additional monies to help defray the costs of their college educations." - Marvin Mandel, District Deputy Grand Master, Masonic District B See more
