CubCrafters is known for pushing the envelope and being on the leading edge of technology in their products. Lycoming was proud to partner with Cubcrafters on an exclusive IO-390 engine in their new NXCub design. The crew from KITPLANES magazine like the new package too. The company laid out a number of objectives for the NXCub. First of all it had to be fun and easy to flythis despite packing quite a bit of power, 215 hp from a very special CC393i engine that’s based on ...the Lycoming IO-390 CubCrafters’ CC393i is an exclusive, heavily updated version of the Lycoming IO-390 with many weight-saving and performance-enhancing changes. While the cheeky cowling is similar to others in the lineup, it hides a thoroughly revised and updated version of the angle-valve IO-390 that’s exclusive to the NXCub. Thanks to a specially designed cold-air induction system rendered in magnesium, as well as an accessory case and oil sump in that lightweight material, the engine lost a fair bit of weight. In place of mags are dual Lycoming EIS electronic ignitions and the lightest possible alternator and starter are used.
