Today LBPD K9 Unit took possession of our 2019 Ford Police Interceptor. This interceptor is specially outfitted for use by the K9 unit. What makes it so special? The K9 patrol vehicle has a Setina Manufacturing split back seat, giving room for the K9 and allows the transportation of a prisoner. The K9 patrol vehicle is also equipped with an AceK9.com Hot-N-Pop Pro. The Hot-N-Pop Pro is designed to alert the handler that the interior of the vehicle has reached an unsafe temper...ature for the K9 and requires immediate attention. While I hope that function of the Hot-N-Pop Pro is never used, it's good to have just in case. Another function of the Hot-N-Pop Pro it allows the K9's door to open using a remote which will be attached to the handler's uniform if that need ever arises. Lastly, if any of our followers also follow our main Lititz Borough Police Department page, you'll notice that the K9 patrol vehicle is grey and the other patrol vehicles are white. We attached an explanation as to why we went with grey instead of white, like the rest of our fleet. I would again like to thank the entire community, including business owners and organizations, who donated towards this cause! A special thank you is in order to two groups; Brian and Doreen Ober from Sign Me Up Graphics in Manheim for donating the graphics for the vehicle and a big thank you to the staff and technicians at 10-8 Emergency Vehicle Service during the emergency equipment installation and for all of their help and guidance along the way. *** IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT *** LBPD K9 Unit is excited to announce that we've reached our goal of $70,000! In large part due to donations from Olio Olive Oils & Balsamics, Lititz Springs VFW Post 1463 and Lititz Ambucs. The K9 unit thanks everyone who has donated, regardless of the amount, or played a part in fundraising efforts. This goal was achieved by a supportive community, businesses and leaders who understand the importance of this tool in keeping our neighborhoods saf...e. In late October a K9 will be selected from Vohne Liche Kennels and a brief bonding period will follow. At this time there is no specific breed that LBPD is going to be receiving. The K9 selection will be based on the performance, demeanor and social ability of the K9 during the selection process, not breed. November 4, 2019 Officer Burke will be travelling back to Vohne Liche Kennels for a dual-purpose handler training course which is six weeks long and ends December 13, 2019. Shortly after returning to Lititz from the handler training course, the K9 unit will be placed in service and begin patrol work. *** LBPD K9 Foundation, Inc. *** There will be continuous fundraising due to annual maintenance training and other costs associated with the K9 unit. We are happy to announce that due to the help of a borough resident and business owner we have recently formed the LBPD K9 Foundation, Inc. The LBPD K9 Foundation, Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit foundation with it's sole purpose to ensure that the LBPD K9 unit is properly outfitted, trained and operating efficiently. Starting a 501c3 also allows the K9 unit to access funds through grants and other services which are not otherwise obtainable. We want to thank all of our followers and encourage you to stay up to date with the LBPD K9 happenins'. We plan on venturing over to other social media platforms, such as Instagram, in the future. Thank you!
