Always giving you an analogy When it comes to learning body movement ~Slow down~ Like really slow down! Especially if it’s new to you and your body. Put you...r body in each position slowly and hold for a few seconds. The body has to learn its direction and take little snapshots of each position. Do this over and over again, 1 full song for practice. Once the body understands start speeding it up until you are able to move to tempo. If you are still struggling switch between half time (slow) and up to tempo (regular song speed). Be patient with your body, with your mind, with your SELF! Don’t rush or you won’t learn it properly and you won’t be in control. You might even end up looking spastic Want to work on body movement my Reggaeton class is a great class to join. A year ago today we were all rehearsing like CRAZY for my first independent student showcase. All the women, men, kids and couples were about to perform together the following Friday. Rehearsals were every day, we were nervous, we were excited, we were ready! My dear friend and student pulled me aside after class as I repeatedly ignored what was going on in the news and continued to prepare for our show. The show WILL go on! I chanted. Babes we need to talk said Shana,... tilting her head and looking at me with a gentle I’m about to wake you the eff up to reality look(which she often does, thanks Shana.) The show isn’t going to happen. This shit is serious. They’re going to be shutting everything down... Well, here we are. Yes, this shit IS serious! Heartbreaking, depressing, frustrating to say the least. It’s been life changing both on a world level and a personal level. But also, tragic events have given birth to many beautiful things in the past year. For some of us I know we might have to look hard for those beautiful moments. We might have to squint really hard but, they are there Personally, I am not the same person I was a year ago. My heart was broken wide open and in those painful moments the beauty of learning, loving and healing myself happened. And through it all, my dancing, our dancing, you beautiful people carried me through, danced me through it all. I am forever grateful for you all. Love you More

13 years ago, Wow! What a memory... My first ProAm Latin Competition with my student Marc Goodman in Mexico . I had new dresses designed and made by Mario Pisu from Italy and I was SO excited. They were to be shipped to the hotel in Mexico so I would have them to compete it. Well... the obviously didn’t happen. I had to throw on a regular dress and just go for it. We had an amazing time and it was a great experience! I’m reminded I can’t control everything and I need to continue to just go with the ~flow~

When a certain song plays what energy does it give you? What emotion does it evoke in you? Are you able to express that through movement? We’ve been playing a lot with different energies, expressions and emotions in class lately. Learning a small combo and then switching up the music, slow, fast, happy, sad. What can you do with your body, how can you make the choreography an expression of your emotions from the song? I know it isn’t easy, something to constantly work on.... Dig deep into your heart, what wants to come out when you dance? What needs to be seen or heard. Dance that! Dance what you feel inside. Bring it to the surface and out. I see you.
