Can you tell how much we love her by the looks on our faces? And we are pretty sure the feeling is mutual Little Jean Marie is doing awesome! Follow up vet visit to check out her broken legs on Friday so we will keep you all posted! Photo by Jennifer Foster

Lancaster Farm Sanctuary 05.05.2021

Everybody’s sweet little piggy friend Jean Marie is doing great! She has been FULL of energy lately and has a great appetite! She seems to be feeling very ready to get her casts off and run a marathon! We are trying to keep her from running around too much which isn’t easy but she still needs to rest and heal...but try telling her that! It’s amazing to see how much her personality is shining as she feels better and better! Also want to let you all know that Meg (the baby goat with the cleft palate that had surgery last week) is doing alright! She is stable and healing. We will be sure to share photos and more info on her once we get them. But thank you to all of you who have been asking about her

Jean Update We have some splendid news about Jean...... A few weeks ago she shattered both her back leg bones when she fell from a transport truck. But yesterday at her follow-up X-rays, her vet said her left leg looks like it’s healing perfectly and the right one is healing much better than anyone expected based on how badly it was broken! So she is in splints now instead of casts for the next few weeks! We are so so so happy for Jean! She doesn’t seem to be in any pain, and she really loves snuggling with her human family as you can see!

Jude update Sleepy Tim and Jude snuggling and napping together which they love to do . As many of you know, Jude has again been running a slight fever off and on so we started him back on some antibiotics. So far, so good. Jude is a very laid back boy and we don’t expect that he is ever going to change! He likes to chilllllllll and eat grass and nap and get snuggled on repeat. He is gaining weight and his skin and hair are healthier than ever. We are hopeful that he will continue to heal so please don’t worry too much, but after a lot of consulting we do feel that he needed some time back on meds. He seems totally comfortable and happy and thankfully he only gets one injection a week so it isn’t an intensive process.

We are down to the final 30 minutes to bid on the Art Auction. We have fallen in love with all of these pieces and can't thank the High Schoolers and their teacher, Whitney Babin Yeo, enough for choosing us to donate their talents to.

Jean Marie!!!!! Jean Marie is doing awesome! As you can see in this photo, she loves digging in the dirt with her cute little nosey! And she is getting so big and strong! Today we go back to the hospital for X-rays on both back legs! She might even get her casts removed! She will still need splints but it would be great for her to get out of those big casts. But either way we will manage! And yesterday, she ate her first pieces of apple! She was so thrilled about it! We h...ad offered her fruit before but she just wasn’t interested so this is so exciting to see her munching on solid foods! Don’t you just want to smooch her little face?! Thank you all for supporting the babies and their medical needs this week! There is still time to donate to their fundraiser which we will post in the comments! Thank you! See more

TIM!!! This baby boy is a ray of pure sunshine and joy! All he wants to do is play, play, play and snuggle! Yesterday he was bouncing all around and then plopped down right in the grass at our feet and demanded chin scratches! He is just about four months old which means he is a typical age for the majority of veal slaughter. Calves his age and younger are also slaughtered for low grade meat such as beef hot dogs. We have all been conditioned not to think about the... individual behind the product. And although Tim is a super special boy to us, he is not unique. He simply had the opportunity to grow and be himself in safety and with love. The way it should be . by Jennifer Foster See more

Jude Update As you may know, we took Jude to the hospital yesterday for follow-up testing after months of illness and surgery. Unfortunately there’s good news and bad news. The good news is that the lesions on Jude’s heart valves did not get any worse. They also do not see any problems with the way his heart is pumping and his blood is flowing. We will continue to check his heart every six months to monitor. The bad news is Jude’s fibrinogen (marker of inflammation in h...is blood) has gone up substantially since taking him off antibiotics about 10 days ago. This means that despite months of antibiotic treatments and surgeries, there is still significant inflammation in his body, which could be indicative of infection. His vet team at New Bolton is consulting to come up with a plan. We will be putting him back on antibiotics. But at this time we all feel (vets included) that he is best off at home with his family and friends so please know there are no plans to readmit him to the hospital again. See more

Lancaster Farm Sanctuary 02.03.2021

We are taking Jude to the hospital today. He will have a follow-up echocardiogram to hopefully confirm that he is still healing from his early life infections. We will know the months of care, multiple surgeries, and daily injections of antibiotics were successful if he no longer shows any thickening in his heart valves from the bacteria. Please keep him in your thoughts for this big important test! He has been so happy lately! Last evening we watched from the window as Jude followed his huge cow friend Bess around in the field. Whenever Bess would stop to graze Jude would stop too and graze right next to her. To see him have friends and enjoy the spring grasses is everything. We are so hopeful this is the last appointment like this for him for a long time! Stay tuned...

Another GOOD Meg Update! Look at this picture we got of little Meg this morning, taken the day after her surgery! She is up on her feet and moving around! They said she is bright and bouncy Her vet removed her tracheotomy, as the serious concern of her not getting enough oxygen overnight has been eliminated. She was apparently lethargic early last night, so they gave her a blood transfusion and luckily that seems to have been what she needed to kickstart better hea...ling!! They told us the surgery was four hours and very meticulous. Apparently they did not need to graft any tissue onto her cleft and instead somehow just used the existing tissue in her mouth and sort of closed it up. We are so happy things are going this well for Meg so far! We are so grateful for all of your support for her!!! We are so grateful for the whole team at New Bolton Vet Hospital giving her such great care! Yay, Meggers!!!! See more

Meg Update Meg is out of surgery!!! After many hours of surgery today for her cleft palate reconstruction (and us nearly collapsing from anxiety and worry) we just got the phone call that Meg did very well in surgery today! This was an intense surgery and Meg is very uncomfortable as a result, so they do have her on morphine. She also has a temporary tracheotomy (a tube which goes directly into her windpipe) so that swelling cannot cause her to stop breathing during ...early recovery. They said they will be watching Meg very closely all night. Obviously there are so many things that could still go wrong, but right now we are just absolutely ecstatic to get this news. PS, This photo is from the other day (not post surgery today). Is Meg not just the sweetest dearest angel baby? Thank you everyone who has been wishing Meg well today! Let’s keep it up until she is home! See more

Lancaster Farm Sanctuary 21.01.2021

Thank you all for your incredible support! We are so close to our halfway mark with this fundraiser and that wouldn't be possible without this community of people determined to make a difference. Meg is going into surgery today, please keep her in your thoughts!

Lancaster Farm Sanctuary 01.01.2021

Everybody’s girl Meg is going into surgery soon for her cleft palate reconstruction. Let’s all send her ALL THE LOVE all day today! She is the sweetest little angel and she is also so tough and resilient. And she is so so so loved by so many people! We are all thinking of you and pulling for you, Meg! We will keep you all updated whenever we hear anything. Thank you all for caring so much about Meg right along with us.

Lancaster Farm Sanctuary 20.12.2020

Meg is having her big surgery tomorrow to reconstruct her cleft palate. As many of you know we rescued her several weeks ago and she has been back and forth to the hospital with a variety of health concerns. Today we went and visited her and honestly it was bittersweet. We were so so happy to see her because we miss her so bad but it was also sad to see her hooked up to tubes and clearly frantic to suckle as you saw in the video. She has also has digestive issues and dia...rrhea as a result has to have ointment all over her hind end. This little girl has been through it. We had mentioned possibly doing a livestream with her today but it just didn’t feel right. Anyway, we hope tomorrow is the start of new possibilities for Meg! Obviously it will take weeks of healing and might even require further surgery but at least we are moving forward for her! PLEASE keep her in your thoughts and well wishes. She needs all that love. She is just a tiny baby. And if anyone cares to donate to her care there is a link in the comments below or Venmo: LancasterFarmSanctuary PayPal: LancFarmSanctuary Thanks so much See more

Timothy Update We have a lot of news about this boy! Turns out he has a condition where his kneecap pops out of position making it impossible to stand or walk. The vet said the first few days they had to keep popping his knee back into place for him, but the amazing news is that his tendons are strengthening, and his knee is starting to stay in place on its own! This has been aided by PT techniques at the hospital including taping his feet and having him wear special s...hoes. He also has an umbilical infection, but because we caught it so early it will hopefully be remedied with just antibiotics, and we are hoping no surgery will be needed. As you can see in the video, Timothy has a hunched posture, and the vet says it has to do with his legs and body being somewhat contracted. But he’s already starting to elongate, which is encouraging! We are still waiting on a lot more test results. Meanwhile we are just so so so happy to see Timothy up and on his feet in these great videos by his awesome medical team at New Bolton. See more

Guess who stood up on their own at 4pm yesterday for the first time?!?! Timothy!! We rescued this little fella Thursday and he has been at the hospital since. He has some issues with his back left leg which were making it hard for him to stand. However, the vet team said with the help of PT and special shoes, he was able to get up on his own yesterday! Hooray!!! The vets are going to try and get some videos of him to us today but meantime they sent this photo of his sweet face. We are still awaiting results from lots of tests so we don’t have much more to share but wanted to keep you all updated! We are so thankful we got to Timothy when he was just a day old and got him to the hospital because it will give him a much better prognosis for being able to walk and run and playwith his new brother Jude!!!!

RESCUE UPDATE Introducing Timothy There have been a few very sad losses at the sanctuary recently, and to be honest we had decided that we were not taking in any more animals this year. And then we were contacted about this little day-old calf... We rushed to get him and took him to the vet hospital today. Before even meeting him, we felt like his name might be Timothy... So far we know his preliminary bloodwork looks OK, and his vet is hopeful that the malformation in his back left leg will heal with time. (And special shoes.) We will keep you all updated about this sweet boy. We can’t wait for him to meet Jude! Please consider a donation to help us cover his medical costs and care. Thank you. See more

Hey all it’s $5 Friday and we are collecting for Baby Jude’s surgeries this week. We are so thankful for all the support we’ve gotten so far That said we must plan ahead and anticipate the upcoming bills which will surely be very expensive. Any amount is so helpful. He will likely need several (not just one) surgeries for his cranio-facial reconstruction. Feel free to share. Thanks so much! And we will provide an update later today when we hear from the vet about whether we are moving him up to Cornell for the procedures. Thank you And happy Halloween eve

RESCUE ALERT! We just got contacted about this boy calf who was born prematurely yesterday. We are dropping everything to go and get him. Will you help us help him? Let’s get this little boy home for the holidays! We are going to rush him down to New Bolton hospital. We will keep you all posted!

JUDE UPDATE This morning we got a call from the vet saying that Jude wasn’t doing well. She said they were having trouble getting him up and moving and that he had no interest in eating. She said they were going to need to run more tests and do an ultrasound. Obviously we were instantly sick with worry and just wanted to go be with him so badly. We shared with the vet that we worried so much about him being alone in isolation and that we felt strongly he needed more ...love and attention. We asked to please come see him and were told this was not possible The vet assured us that Jude was getting lots of love and attention. She also offered for us to FaceTime with him. Of course the gesture was more for us than for Jude but we were still so happy to be able to see him and tell him a hundred times over and over that we love him The vet also updated us later in the day that Jude was more energetic and eating! They explained a few theories about why he might have lost his appetite including discomfort from his umbilical infection. Regardless, the update was reassuring for now. We also had a very candid conversation with two of the vets about whether or not we should move Jude to Cornell for his surgeries. That is yet to be decided but of course we will keep you all updated. Please enjoy this little FaceTime video of Jude. We know you all love him as much as we do See more

It’s Pumpkin season! Guess who has been doing really great lately! It’s Pumpkin!!! We had a bit of a health concern last week, which required several conversations with the vet, but things seemed to have fully cleared up and now Pumpkin is living every day to the fullest. She is still on her antibiotics, which she manages to spit out unless they are completely surrounded by a Frito sandwich. We are not kidding. We have tried apples, bananas, and carrots. We have fully hollowed out healthy fruits to hide the pill deep inside and she still manages to spit it out. She is one sassy and smart pigger!! And she knows what she likes!

The doctor sent this video of Jude this afternoon. We were so happy to see his handsome little face Jude is doing a little better with his diarrhea and still doesn’t have a fever so that’s good! He does shows signs of pneumonia which is being addressed. We are still waiting on the results of his salmonella test. The big news is that he met with the surgeon today who started the assessment process. The surgeon feels definitively that Jude needs reconstructive surgery, ...but wants to consult with another specialist before formulating a plan. What this means is that Jude has to wait until next week when another specialist can come in and assess we are sad to hear this but he needs that time to get medically stable anyway. The doctor also made clear that (assuming all goes well) Jude will be in the hospital for a long time. He might even need more than one surgery. We miss him so bad. One thing that’s really bothering us is that we can’t go visit him because of Covid. Please keep the love and support coming for baby Jude. He really needs it. See more

RESCUE ALERT Introducing Griselda Late Friday night we got a call about a turkey in need. Some awesome animal activist friends of ours had rescued her from a notorious local live market. They had convinced the stand holder to surrender the turkey because she had a cut on her head and was bleeding, and because she appeared malnourished and struggled to move. The activists overheard a group of young men talking about purchasing some of the animals at the stand as bait ...for dogfighting. This made sense because the turkey was the only one of her kind at the stand, along with an assortment of rabbits, chickens, and guinea pigs. As you can see in this video, the turkey had been crammed in a small cage, which caused her legs to be contracted and buckled beneath her. But already with just a few days of physical therapy and plenty of space to spread out, she is standing and walking better (see video in caption). She does lean heavily to one side and she also has trouble eating, both of which are cause for concern. So today we took her to the vet for x-rays, but nothing was found. We are awaiting the results of some additional testing. Hopefully we can get sweet Griselda feeling better soon. PS, no major new news on Jude. The surgeon comes tomorrow to assess him, so we will definitely give you all an update then. Keep the good vibes coming for Jude and Griselda please! See more

Jude Update This photo was just sent to us by one of the vet’s on Jude’s team. She said that Jude is currently resting after romping around his room for a bit. She told us that Jude no longer has a fever(!) which is great news. And that after his first 24 hours on medication he is showing some early signs of progress(!) Obviously he has a looong way to go, but quite frankly everybody is just very happy that he made it through the night. And the fact that he no long...er has a fever is encouraging. Jude is presently getting most of his nutrients and fluids through an IV (which you can see in the photo) so that his digestive system can have a rest. There are some concerns that he has a salmonella infection, for which he is being tested. We are just going to keep taking things hour by hour and day by day. Today we told the vet to make sure to tell him that we love him so much. And she promised us that she would. And then said that they all love him so much too. She also said that by tomorrow they were going to make sure he has a big stuffed animal to cuddle with in his room. Thank you all so much for continuing to donate to Jude’s care, sharing his story, and sending him love. See more

RESCUE ALERT This morning we rescued a four-day old boy calf from a local dairy. He was born with a cleft palate so he was unable to be sold to make meat. This baby was kept in a small metal cage out in the cold. He has pneumonia, a fever, and an umbilical infection. Upon inspecting his umbilical area the vet commented he must have been kept in nasty conditions which we can certainly confirm. Baby Jude is now in the critical care unit at New Bolton Hospital. We ...are going to be taking things day by day. He will eventually need surgery to reconstruct his face, but first we must get his other conditions stabilized. We are asking for your help and support in caring for Jude. He didn’t have a very fair start, but we’re going to do all we can to make up for that. Please help us. If you can give any donation, no matter how small, please check out our Venmo, PayPal, or website. And if you cannot donate, please consider sharing this post to spread the word for him. This little boy needs our help. Thank you. See more

We need your help! This morning, we a rescued a very sick baby calf from a local dairy. We've named him Jude and promise to do everything possible to save his life. Jude was born with a cleft palate and is going to need major surgery immediately. Without surgery, he will not be able to feed or survive. We are rushing him to New Bolton Hospital at this very moment. We are asking for your support to save this four-day-old boy. St. Jude is the patron saint of desperate cases and lost causes. For other calves like Jude, there is no hope. We've already fallen in love with Jude. All he wants is to be cuddled and loved, but we must first save his life. This is a huge undertaking that will be costly. We appreciate any and all help you can give baby Jude.

Pumpy has been feeling very spunky! She’s been marching around the sanctuary like she owns the place lately (she does) and seems to be feeling really happy and good! We are so grateful to see her feeling so great! Hopefully this is her new natural state having fought her way through sickness and abuse for so long! Go, Pumpkin!
