Do you remember the LifePak 5? The LifePak 5 was introduced in 1976 by Physio-Control. The unit featured both an EKG monitor and defibrillator which could be separated. The LP5 was capable of transmitting telemetry from the field to the emergency department. These devices were widely used on advanced life support units by Paramedics and Registered Nurses. In the mid 1990’s we retired the LifePak 5 and transitioned to the LifePak 12. The LifePak 12 featured expanded diagnost...ic functions, and provided SpO2 monitoring. In 2014, Lancaster EMS phased out the LifePak 12 and put LifePak 15’s in-service. Today, April 2 is World Autism Awareness Day. We want to recognize all those special needs patients we medically treat and care for! In partnership with Schreiber Center for Pediatric Development, Lancaster EMS is fortunate to become the 1st EMS Agency in Lancaster County to equip 30 of our front-line ambulances with sensory bags. Our EMT's and Medics can use these sensory bags on calls to help handle emergency calls for children with autism or other behavioral or anxiety issues to feel more comfortable while being medically treated. Have you heard of MAST Trousers? #ThrowbackThursday Medical Anti-Shock Trousers, commonly known MAST Trousers became an essential piece of equipment on ambulances providing advanced-level care in 1977. They worked by providing pressure around the legs and abdomen of the patient to treat several types of shock. During the 1980’s they became required equipment on ambulances in 30 states. MAST Trousers were eventually phased off of ambulances during the late 1990’s. At that ti...me Lancaster EMS retired over 20 sets of MAST Trousers. Lancaster EMS Launches "Learn While You Earn" EMT Academy Earn your PA Bureau of EMS approved EMT-Basic Certification while being compensated at a training wage of $13/hr. Upon successful completion of the program, candidates will be promoted to EMT-B and receive a commensurate pay rate increase to $15/hr. Candidates will also agree to an 18-month employment commitment to Lancaster EMS post certification.
