District Attorney Mark Powell is joined by Lackawanna County police officials to kick off a targeted aggressive-driving enforcement wave, which will run through April 25. Lackawanna County police departments, in cooperation with the county's Police Traffic Services Project, which is administered by Powell's office, will join the Pennsylvania State Police and more than 200 municipal police agencies to conduct the enforcement wave. The effort will focus on speeding, distracted ...driving, and work zone awareness. Motorists exhibiting other unsafe behaviors such as driving too fast for conditions, following too closely, or other aggressive actions will also be stopped and cited. Joining Powell, from left, are South Abington Township Police Chief Robert Gerrity, Taylor Police Chief Stephen Derenick, Old Forge Police Chief Jason Dubernas, Clarks Summit Police Chief Chris Yarns and State Trooper Bob Urban. Our hearts and prayers go out to the family, friends and fellow officers of U.S. Capitol Police Officer William "Billy" Evans who was killed in the line of duty yesterday at the Capitol. The loss of any police officer is a loss to all of us in law enforcement.
We had the honor of being presented with a check for $1500 from the Lackawanna County District Attorneys Narcotics K9 Assistance Foundation. Detective Vince ...Butkiewicz and his partner Riggs were the driving factor behind this generous donation. Camp Freedom thanks you and Riggs for your dedicated service to our community. See more

We sincerely hope this sentencing brings some comfort and closure to the family and friends of Rebecca Blanco. We also hope it sends a strong message to commercial drivers that if you drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, we will hold you accountable.
My office distributed personal protective equipment yesterday to every police agency in Lackawanna County to keep our law enforcement officers safe during the COVID 19 pandemic.
My office distributed personal protective equipment (PPE) yesterday to all police agencies in Lackawanna County as part of ongoing commitment to keep law enforcement safe during he COVID 19 pandemic. The packages, which were funded through a grant obtained by my office, included a cordless sanitizer gun and two gallons of medical-grade disinfectant refills; 24 canisters of 100 sanitizer wipes; 32 pump bottles containing 16 ounces of hand sanitizer and four gallons of sanitizer for refills; six boxes of 100 pairs of black nitrile gloves; four boxes containing 10 N95 masks; and a case of 10 protective coveralls. I was joined by Moscow Police Officer Martin Ceiless, First Assistant District Attorney Judith Price and Program Manager Carina Havenstrite. Below, Officer Ceiless is interviewed by FOX56.
As a father of four, I just can’t imagine how anyone could hurt a child. I sincerely hope the sentencing in this case sends a clear message to those who harm children. - District Attorney Mark Powell
Eileen Julie Dougherty, 40, of 922 Delaware St., Scranton, is jailed without bail at the Lackawanna County Prison on homicide charges following her arrest Wednesday in the stabbing death of her fiancé George Shencavitz, 31. During her arraignment, Lackawanna County District Attorney Mark Powell asked the court not to set bail, saying Dougherty is "a danger to society (and) a danger to herself."
Please Celebrate Safely!
Our deepest sympathy to Firefighter Stephen Sunday’s family.

Wishing everyone a happy, healthy and SAFE Holiday Season!!!
Lackawanna County DA Mark Powell, right, and Chief County Detective David Baker stand in front of a table of unused prescription medications that were collected by the DA’s Office as part of an ongoing effort to keep addictive prescription drugs from getting into the wrong hands. The DA's drug take-back efforts have resulted in the collection of more than 80 pounds of unused medications. This photo was published on Page 2 of today's Times-Tribune.
The District Attorney's Office, as it has the past three years, participated in this year's "Adopt an Angel" program sponsored by the Lackawanna County Office of Family & Youth Services. Nearly 500 children in the county submit letters to Santa and program sponsors like the DA's Office try to make each child's Christmas wishes come true. Merry Christmas everyone! Have a safe and healthy holiday season!!!
