Today marks the beginning of a new semester. Good luck with the start of the Spring term, Golden Bears!
Today we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. KU students traditionally complete about a dozen service projects for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Thousands of students have volunteered at dozens of locations in Berks and Lehigh counties over the past 12 years. This year, due to the pandemic, we are encouraging you to find a project that you can complete safely in your town or something that you can do at home. FRONTLINE FRIDAY KU is proud of alumna Taren Fritzinger, who is a frontline worker in Philadelphia. Taren graduated in 2017 with a degree in biology/pre-med. She is a registered nurse at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia and the Children’s Surgical Center in Malvern. Taren, like many others, had been in the shoes of the patients when she was younger. Being around nurses and seeing firsthand how they’ve helped her, guided her to the path of becoming a nurse.... I wanted to work in the medical field ever since I was young. I’ve been a patient myself, so I know that a trip to the hospital can produce anxiety. The nurses were always the ones that calmed me down whenever I was scared. They also made sure to take the extra time to educate me and my family each time I had a test or procedure done. I promised myself that I would become a nurse so that I could provide excellent care to future patients as well as be there for my patients when they need me the most. Thank you, Taren!
Good luck on finals this week Golden Bears! Study hard. The finish line is near!

FRONTLINE FRIDAY KU is proud of alumna Stormie Gough, who is a frontline worker in Allentown. Stormie graduated in 2015 with a degree in biology/pre-med. She is a resident physician in the pediatrics unit at the Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital. Early on in her studies at Kutztown, Stormie knew that she wanted to dedicate her career to helping others. I have always had a passion for helping people. During my time at KU (and with help from some amazing mentors in the ...biology department), I realized that becoming a physician would allow me to combine my passion for science and caring for people. During medical school I decided to specialize in pediatrics because of the resilience and strength that children show (plus these kiddos make work really fun!). I graduated medical school this past year and started my pediatric training in the middle of a global pandemic. I am so grateful to be able to serve the public during this historic global health crisis. Thank you Stormie!
