Raising a caring, respectful, ethical child is and always has been hard work. But it’s something all of us can do. And no work is more important or ultimately more rewarding.

One of the most important lessons we can teach a child is to readily own their mistakes. Here’s a great anecdote from the master of kindness and integrity (Mr. Rogers, of course!)....

The "Power of Yet" is our theme song today! We love this song because it's exactly what we practice here. When your child gets frustrated with a skill, we teach them that they just didn't get it YET! We practice, we guide, and we encourage until they get it. That's the power of yet! Thanks to my little buddy this morning for introducing the song behind the concept that we love! https://youtu.be/XLeUvZvuvAs

Sing this to a child today, even if she's a teenager who seems too old! (maybe especially if she's a teenager ).

The weather for the next few days in Pittsburgh will be picture perfect! As therapists, we love to work on developmental skills in natural environments. Check out our latest "Just 3" from Jocelyn to learn ways to work on speech skills while playing outdoors. While you're on our website, look over all of the articles in the series. Every article takes less than 3 minutes to read and gives you tools to promote your child's development of communication and motor skills! Need us? Our favorite review came from a conversation with between a 3 year old and his dad today... Dad: Let's get ready to go to therapy Boy: You mean go to Becky's house?? We know that true progress comes when a child sees therapists as adults who love and support them and a clinic that feels like "home." Thanks for hanging out with us today, little buddy. You are loved and we are so proud of you!

Community hero alert! We want to spotlight a JPT superhero today. (His mom enthusiastically consented to this shout-out). Please meet Nayel! Nayel is rocking his goals while wearing his superhero mask. Since June 8, his therapists and I have been watching him and tracking his progress while wearing a mask. We wanted evidence on a preschooler's ability to overcome sensory and communication challenges of this extra apparel. He has exceeded every expectation placed on him. He we...ars his mask for 100% of his time with us, without touching it or moving it. His speech is completely intelligible to unfamiliar adults. It has not impeded his communication, socialization, or attention...and we have the data to support this claim! We give all the credit to his family. In their house, wearing a mask was framed as "we are doing this to protect others." Just as they don't engage in discussion about the discomfot of wearing seatbelts, they did not entertain the notion of not wearing it. They just do it. Nayel-you are a superhero and show just what can happen when we place high expectations on kids. As a token of our admiration at JPT, please pick up your gift card on Monday. Thank you for being a role model!
