Although we’ve marched through February, officially coined ‘heart month’, lets talk about hearts! We’d like to share a little blurb about hearts, specifically congenital heart defects! What exactly is that you may be wondering... Simply put, it’s a defect of the heart that is present at birth. There are many different types of defects and nearly 25% need some form of surgical correction. CHD effects approximately 1 in every 110 United States births. Why? Most are unknown.... We’ve had the opportunity to transport some kiddos with CHDs. We are so grateful and honored to know them. Now, without further ado & with the approval of Bristol’s parents we want to share their heart-warming story! : Bristol is a CHD warrior and is almost 2 years old. {with the 2 theme, she has flown with us twice, too } CHD diagnosis > Tetralogy of Fallot and Pulmonary Atresia. She’s had 2 open heart surgeries in a span of 13 months! Bristol also has an unknown intestinal condition which caused her to be fed by a PICC line. Milestone alert that pesky PICC line has been removed since September and is now progressing with g-tube feedings.

We here at Guthrie Air are a small part in a really great EMS family. Our dear friend and EMS family member, Daryl Tombs, is in critical condition fighting COVID-19. Daryl, his friends & family, and EMS family are in our thoughts. It is with great sadness as we learn that Daryl Tombs lost his fight with COVID. We thank and admire Daryl for his service to our EMS community. His impact was immense and will be greatly missed. His spirit will be carried on in all of the lives he touched, both personally and professionally.
