Blade banks are a great place to safely store used razor blades from safety razors. They’ll stay protected until you’re ready to properly recycle. Each compact tin can hold up to 100 blades. When it is full we will take your tin and empty it here, so you can continue to reuse it. The blades are safely recycled at a local facility here in Philadelphia. Have you seen the latest issue of @ediblephilly? We got a sweet spot to highlight one of our favorite recipes using kitchen waste (page 1 + 22). Food waste is the number one material found in US landfills and a huge area where people tend to waste money. Save yourself (and the planet!) some green by using up those scraps in your kitchen. Check out our recipe below - adapted from @beardfoundation’s book ‘Waste Not’. Special thanks to @joymanning for thinking of Good Buy Supp...ly and giving us this opportunity to highlight one of our other passions. ~ Charred Broccoli Stems over Whipped Lemon Hummus What You’ll Need: - Canola Oil or Neutral Oil - 2-3 Leftover Broccoli Stems - 1 Lemon - 3 Garlic Cloves - 1 Tbsp Tahini - 1 Cup Cooked Chickpeas (with liquid) - Herb Stems To make the charred broccoli: Slice each broccoli stalk lengthwise. Place in a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat with a drizzle of canola oil. Once the oil begins to lightly smoke add in the broccoli stems cut-side down, and sear until dark brown, about 2-4 minutes. Flip and then sear on the other side, another 2 minutes. Reduce the heat to medium, add the lemon juice and garlic until the juice has evaporated and the garlic is fragrant, 30 seconds to 1 minute. Season to taste with salt and pepper and transfer to a plate. To make the whipped hummus: In a food processor combine chickpeas, lemon juice, garlic and tahini. Blend until the mixture becomes a uniform paste. With your food processor running, slowly add in your olive oil, and aquafaba (chickpea liquid) to create a light whipped texture. Season to taste with salt and pepper. To make the herb oil: In a medium bowl, combine the broccoli leaves or herb stems and olive oil. Process with immersion blender until the mixture looks like a loose pesto. Plate the hummus on the the platter and top with the charred broccoli stems. Drizzle with herb oil, lemon zest and a sprinkling of crushed red pepper. Garnish with edible flowers (we used radish here) and you are all set!
