AREMS Medic 54-4 AOS and reported a 2 car MVC, (-) entrapment, all occupants out of the vehicle. 1 vehicle into a telephone pole. DC 1 AOS with command. Rescue 1 assisted EMS and controlled hazards. Engine 1-1 placed in service prior to arrival. ... 1 patient transported to trauma facility with non-life threatening injuries. Met-Ed requested for severed utility pole. **DELAYED POST** 12/01/2020 Box 6-1 Butler Twp. Gettysburg Fire Department assisted Biglerville Fire Department with a well involved mobile home fire. Engine, Truck and Rescue responded. ... Crews assisted with fire attack, water supply and overhaul. Crews operated for approx 2hrs before being released. 1 resident safely evacuated the residence prior to FD arrival. Residents pet cat was removed and taken to a local animal hospital where it was treated for some injuries. Cat is expected to make a full recovery. Sadly the house was a total loss. Assistance is being provided by the American Red Cross.

Box 1-4-30 09:18hrs EMS called upgraded to Rescue Assignment. Patient impaled by Hoyer Lift component. Rescue, Truck and Traffic responded along with AREMS. ... Deputy Chief 1 AOS and confirmed dispatch. PPE advised due to location of patient. EMS stabilized the component and provided the patient with medication for pain. Rescue 1 utilized the Man-vs-Machine kit to free the patient with no further injury. Patient transported to a local facility for treatment. Also shown are members DECON’ing the Fire apparatus and equipment prior to placing back in service.

It is with profound sadness that the Gettysburg Fire Department announce the passing of FF Eugene Richardson over the weekend. More details to follow as we receive them. The Gettysburg Fire Department offers our condolences to the Richardson family on his passing and ask to keep Gene and his family in your thoughts and prayers as they work through this difficult time.

Last night members conducted additional training with the Rescue Q Jacks and Holmatro Tools. Members from Barlow Fire Department also participated in the training. Scenario was car up against a tree with driver pinned. Rescue Q Jacks were utilized along with a Cum-A-Long to do a controlled lower of the vehicle to allow access to the roof of the car and patient. Trees where unable to be removed from the area, as this could happen in a real incident. Eg Large Tree, utility... pole ..... Members practiced this 1st, then removed everything and put all equipment in staging, then members went to work like it was a actually incident. Once vehicle was moved approximately 1 foot away memebers where able to get in with the tools and started to remove the roof. Once roof was removed the steering column was pulled, spreaders utilized to lift the dash up of the patient. Once removed, rescue Randy lost his head.....true story! With a little glue, Randy is expected to make a full recovery. Great training! Look forward to a possible Rescue Q Jack Stab-U class (stabilization university) to be held in Gettysburg early next year. Thank You to the Gettysburg Public Works for assistance with placing/smashing the car, EMT Bob Watts for the donation of the vehicle, Instructor John Sileski from MES for the training. Prior to partaking in the training, GFD was dispatched on a MVC with confinement. Incident shown in another post.

10/21/2020 Box 1-8-30 200blk Shealer Rd for a 2 car MVC initially dispatched as entrapment. Rescue 1/Truck 1 initially responded as members from GFD and Barlow were currently training on vehicle rescue extrication behind the station. Engine 1-1 followed shortly behind. ... Assistant 1 AOS and assumed command and found a two vehicle accident with a good distance between both vehicle. Found 1 patient confined inside the driver area of 1 of the vehicles. Crew from Rescue 1 stabilized vehicle, and removed the drivers door for access. Truck 1 crew assisted EMS and hazard control on 2nd vehicle. All occupants out of that vehicle. Engine 1-1 provided fire suppression. 1 pt transported to local facility with non-life threatening injuries by #adamsregionalems PSP investigating. Fire Police assisted with traffic control. On September 27th the Gettysburg Fire Department conducted our annual fire safety open house. Along with the event, there was a coloring contest for students K-5 grade. This years 1st place winner was Ashley Beamer. Ashley took home a $25 gift card to Wal-Mart. ... Congratulations!

0545 hours Box 1-8 was dispatched to the area of 184 Flickinger Road, Straban Twp for the house fire. Units responding were provided information of a possible abandoned mobile home well involved. Engine 1-2 arrived on scene and confirmed a single wide mobile home full involved. FF C. Folster established Command , while E 1-2 stretched on the dwelling and began fire attack. Arriving mutual aid units were assigned as back up and water supply to E1-2. Box 1-8 was placed in servi...ce @ 0826 hours. Trailer was a complete loss. Cause under investigation. From the Gburg Times Out of the Past column. This was preparation to ready the old Adams County Motors building into the Gettysburg Fire Department. A major part of the work was adding new bay doors along Liberty Street. Those same doors were removed and again bricked over when the Department sold the building after moving to the Stratton Street station.

Members from Boat 1/Boat 2 (Fairfield) safely brought the patient to shore where they where transferred to EMS. ... 15:59hrs Box 1-8-30 Commercial Box at Sheetz for Smoke inside the building. DC 1 AOS and assumed command. 1 story commercial connivence story with nothing showing from all 4 sides. Found a strong electrical odor and light haze inside the store. ... 1st alarm units AOS and investigated. Found a tripped breaker inside the panel box. Crews checked the area and unable to determine cause. Crews ventilated the building. Smoke/odor dissipated. Power secured. Sheetz maintenance personnel requested to the scene. Sheetz will remain temporary closed until maintenance personnel can provide service. Cause: Electrical in nature. 1st Alarm Companies Engine 1-1, 1-2, Truck 1, Traffic 1, Car 1 Engine 22 Engine 7-2 (RIT) Engine 33-1, Truck 33 Medic 54-1

12:26hrs Box 1-8. Area of 2314 York Rd Straban Twp. for an outside investigation, unknown type fire. Adam’s county 911 advised a possible tree on fire from the caller. DC 1 AOS and found a large area of brush and debris on fire. Command requested 2 additional tankers and brush units along with Service 1. ... Crews AOS and began to extinguish the fire. Crews operated for about an hour and a half before being released. 2 FF’s suffered minor injuries. Members did not require any EMS or transport. Company 1 units: Engine 1-1, Engine 1-2, Service 1 and Traffic 1 Mutual Aid units: ET-14, ET-33-3, Engine 33-1, SU-33 and Brush 29. **15:03hrs*** Engine 1-1 returned Non-E for a rekindle. Do to deep seeded fire, property owners utilized heavy equipment to break up and move debris for final extinguishment. Cause: Undetermined

Initially Box 22-3 was struck for a MVC on US Route 15 SB with injuries. Initially Engine 1-1 was due on the box. Chief 22 (Barlow) AOS just shortly after dispatch and confirmed this was actually in a 1-1 Box which added Rescue 1 to the assignment. Chief 22 assumed command and advised vehicle was well involved in fire and requested an additional EMS unit to the scene along with additional Fire Police. Vehicle was traveling on US 15 NB when the incident occurred. All occup...ants where out of the vehicle on arrival and eventually transported by #AREMS to a trauma facility with non-Life threatening injuries. Rescue 1 AOS and deployed the Tri-Max foam system and began to extinguish the fire. Crews were able to darken down the fire relatively quickly with the system but do to the burning magnesium additional water resources were needed. Rescue 22 AOS and backed up Rescue 1 and assisted with final extinguishment. Crews operated for about 45 min. Fire police from 1, 22 and 33 assisted controlling traffic on the highway. Cumberland Twp PD and PSP on scene investigating.

Today at approx 2:20 pm Box 22-3 was struck for vehicle accident on US 15. Reported to be car into bridge. Accident actually was in a Co 1 box. Chief 22 arrived... on scene confirmed dispatched and found both patients out of the vehicle. Units on scene R22, S22, R1, E 1-1, EMS from Co 54. Cumberland Twp PD and PSP. See more

Busy weekend for GFD.... 0245 this morning the box was struck for smoke in the apartment at Spiritrust Lutheran Home on Old Harrisburg Rd. DC 1 AOS and found a light smoke condition inside the apartment with a strong electrical odor. Engine 1-2 AOS and investigated, found a thermostat on the wall that shorted out with breakers tripped. ... Remainder of the box staged in line of approach. Command held Engine 1-2 and Truck 1. Crews secured power and ventilated the apartment. Left with the Director of Building and Grounds. No injuries.

While responding to the call in Aspers this morning I saw something I have never witnessed before. As we approached Sandoes Fruit a woman came out into the parking lot, clasped her hands in prayer and looked upwards. We don't know who you are but thank you for thinking of us!

Box 7-10 Menallen Twp. Gettysburg Fire Department assisted on the commercial building fire at MOTTS. Rescue 1 responded on the Working Fire Dispatch as RIT. Crew set up RIT, but was then assigned to assist companies on the roof with opening up. ... Truck 1 responded in on the 2nd alarm. Crew assisted with ventilation. Company 1 units operated for just over an hour before being released by Command 7.

Box 1-8 10:02hrs intersection of Hunterstown Hampton Rd/Granite Station Rd for a 2 car MVC with confinement. Crews AOS found same, 1 patient confined in a passenger car. Victims of 2nd vehicle out on arrival. Crews stabilized the vehicle, utilized the Holmatro Rescue Tools to remove to driver side door. Patient removed from vehicle and placed in the car of EMS and transported to local facility. ... 2nd patient transported by AREMS to local facility for treatment. (2) patients transported with non-life threatening injuries. Rescue 1, Engine 1-1 and Fire police from 1, 25 and 33 assisted. PSP on scene and investigating.

Members doing some factory training this morning on the new short Apex X-Struts from Rescue-Q-Jack. Training was conducted by MES. Photos taken at different stages to show pros and cons of set up, stability issues and critical angles. New Struts will be carried on Rescue 1.

Members placed 343 flags tonight in remembrance of those who entered the WTC towers 19 years ago and never came home. Never forget.

As a thank you for services provided to the local community by GFD the Gettysburg Giant provided a meal to the members prior to our monthly department meeting. Members enjoyed Giant's broasted chicken, macaroni salad, buttered dinner rolls, and various snacks, oh and cookies!
