March is #ColorectalCancerAwarenessMonth. Colorectal cancer often goes undiagnosed until it has spread, but awareness saves lives! There are often no signs or symptoms of colorectal cancer that’s why it is so important to get screened. We urge you to take the pledge to #GetScreened for colorectal cancer.

Each year, the world commemorates World Tuberculosis (TB) Day on March 24 to raise public awareness about the devastating health, social and economic consequences of TB, and to step up efforts to end the global TB epidemic. On this day, we recognize those that fought this horrible disease and bring awareness to combat the difficulties that it brings. We are grateful to have received our first shipment of Moderna COVID-19 vaccines, which were allocated to us through our status as a federally-qualified health center. Today, our first group of frontline healthcare staff received their initial COVID-19 vaccinations.

On Saturday, Esperanza Health Center partnered with the Ertz Family Foundation (Zach Ertz is a Philadelphia Eagles player) and the Philly Bridge Partnership to give away 1000 coats, gloves, hats, socks and food to the Kensington community. We are happy to have been the site for this event!

Just over one year ago, on October 25, 2019, several hundred Esperanza staff and Board members, volunteers, patients, community members, partners and others gathered together to celebrate the ribbon cutting and grand opening of our Kensington health center site, at 861 E. Allegheny Avenue. After having served the Kensington community for nearly 12 previous years at our former location, Esperanza is now established in Kensington for many years to come!
