To all Ebensburg Turkey Trot Participants: This is the message that we were hoping we wouldn’t have to send. The race directors have been meeting regularly this week via Zoom and closely monitoring the pandemic situation in our area. While we initially believed that an outdoor event could be done in a way that is safe for our participants and volunteers, the recent surge in local case counts has made us reconsider our stance. Some of our race organizers and volunteers have... been directly impacted by Covid-19, so it is hitting especially close to home. Therefore, we regretfully have chosen to cancel the 2020 Ebensburg Turkey Trot. We are maintaining the option to defer or donate your race entry fee which was outlined in an email earlier this week. All donations are going to the Dauntless Fire Company and the Dorothy Day Center. In addition, any participant that wishes to receive a full refund may do so. An email went out to registered participants to select these option. You can also go to https://runsignup.com/Race/PA/Ebensburg/EbensburgTurkeyTrot to select your what you would like to do. Note: Anyone that chooses to defer or donate your entry fee can still pick up your race swag at Up-N-Running at any time. This year we have super comfy RUN EBG hat. For any out of towners, we are not mailing out race swag, but you can have it added free of charge to any online purchase at Up-N-Running (shop.runpa.com). Just add a note to your order prior to checkout and we’ll make sure you get your hat! The decision to cancel was not an easy one. In a year where almost all normal activities have been canceled, we wanted our event to go off without a hitch and continue what has become a wonderful holiday tradition for many. Unfortunately given the circumstances, we were not confident that the event could be run safely for our participants, volunteers, and spectators. The Ebensburg Area Running Club has been blessed to have such a successful annual event with the Turkey Trot. Therefore, even with this cancelation we are on sound financial footing to continue promoting running, walking, and active lifestyle events in the Ebensburg Area. We do feel for the musicians and small businesses that normally benefit from this event and are taking a financial hit this year. While they generally offer to donate part or all of their products and services to our running club, we insist on paying these businesses and individuals for the goods and services they provide to the Turkey Trot as a good will gesture and a boost to our local economy. Please try to support local businesses this holiday season. They are truly hurting this year and need our support. Again, we apologize for having to deliver this message. Ebensburg Turkey Trot Update We are still cautiously moving forward with the race for this year. The safety of our participants, volunteers, and spectators is our #1 priority, so we will continue to monitor and make adjustments as necessary. We understand that the pandemic is a rapidly changing situation and people may not be able to participate this year as planned. An email went out to all participants yesterday, November 16th, with the option to defer your entry to the 20...21 race. Please check your email if this is an option you are interested in. Also yesterday, we hit our registration limit and all registration is closed. Even as participants defer to the 2021 race, we will not be opening up any additional registrations to ensure we can do our best to provide a safe and enjoyable experience. With about 1 month to go to Thanksgiving Day, the race is 70% full. If you are thinking of registering for the 2020 race, don't wait! Be sure to get registered before the registration fee increases on November 1st and before we hit our cap of 400 participants.
