In honor of #InternationalWomensDay, we're highlighting some young alumnae who are changing the world! After graduating from Delone Catholic as a member of the Class of 2016, Sophia Lookingbill attended Mount Saint Mary's University. In 2020, she graduated with a B.S. She recently said: 'In July 2020, I joined a research lab at the National Cancer Institute at Frederick as a post-baccalaureate research fellow. For a young scientist, this opportunity is a dream come true. Wha...t makes my experience unique is the pandemic aspect. Not only do I develop my laboratory skills at the bench while performing various experiments on base at Ft. Detrick, I also have the opportunity to delve into literature and present journal clubs to my fellow lab members in a virtual manner to observe social distancing protocols. I am blessed to be a part of a wonderful laboratory and institute. The beauty of research is two-fold in that we can expand our minds both at the bench with experiments and when away from the bench through scientific literature & discussions. My love for science and dedication to cancer research has never been stronger.'
