Had a volunteer work afternoon at Allen Rd. end of the Rail Trail yesterday. Superb day to be out! Added more seed to our pollinator meadow, picked up trash along our adopted Allen Rd. and removed some invasive honeysuckle to prepare for shrub and tree planting this spring. Lots more to do. Another pretty day shaping up today. Be sure to get some fresh air!
Such a rainy, snowy, dreary day today....BUT.... yesterday turned pretty in the afternoon and was good for a walk. First picture is our boxcar under blue sky taken by Sherri. Second picture is a "mares tails" sky taken on the Letort Trail in Carlisle. A great winter day to be outside on any trail!! Photo credit: Sherri Flohr
As you use the first mile of the trail (which is plowed & paved!) keep an eye out for this fun, cute project of some local Cub Scouts. ;)
New bike repair station at the Newville Trailhead. Thank you Newville!!
Lots to see on the trail...you just have to know where to look, and take the time to look. Maybe some snow ahead this week! Photo Credit: Amy Stahlman
This week is our Annual MEMBERSHIP drive. If you are a member, you should have received an invitation to renew your membership. If not a member, consider how fortunate we all are to have the trail available year round. Help us keep the trail in good condition and support our trail extension work. Join at our website, cvrtc.org, BECOME A MEMBER! Thank you! Snow's a'comin'. Cross country skis are ready:)
How about this great picture Amy took yesterday morning! Truly is a winter wonderland out there on the trail. Dress warm, and maybe take an umbrella over the next few days:) Photo Credit: Amy Stahlman
Sorry to announce Newville Trailhead restrooms are closed due to Covid. Shippensburg restrooms still open. More to follow as we find out new developments. Stay flexible:)
Folks are definitely skiing on the Shippensburg end of the trail!
American Trails has an annual contest for photographs of designated National Recreation Trails across the country. The goal is to highlight the diversity of the NRTs using good photos of trail users as well as special facilities, art on the trails, management issues, construction, and volunteers. We think we’ve got a pretty photogenic stretch of trail - if you have worthy photos, consider entering:
Here's hoping you're getting out on the trail...weather's still pretty good. Ended up a long ride at Allen Rd. yesterday, where I still think we have some of the best views of the valley. First picture is Alexander Spring Creek from the bridge. Second picture is a view to the east, late afternoon. Can you see the moon? Walk off that big meal on the trail:)
We just had a query about trail conditions. These pictures from early this morning show what's out there. Can't get much prettier or colder than this. No melting today either:) Photo Credit: Amy Stahlman
Ten inches or so of snow will change all the views on the trail. Here are three pre-storm. If you get any good snow pics share them with us. Stay warm, stay well!
