Here is a great video on what happens when we sleep and why it is so critical! There are several things to consider if your child is not sleeping. You can start with talking to your pediatrician and making an appointment with an ENT (ear nose and throat) doctor if your child has nasal speech or if they are snoring.

Both Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh and the Free Library of Philadelphia have been invited by the Library of Congress’ National Library Service to take part in ...a year-long pilot which allows PA children, teens, and adults with reading disabilities to have access to free audio reading downloads. Historically, this was only a service for those with blindness or physical disabilities. All that needs done is to complete an application and have a doctor, librarian, special education teacher, SLP, school administrator, etc., certify that the student has a reading disability or is in need of accessible books. You can click here for an application or call 1-800-242-0586 to have an application mailed to you so that the student will be able to access downloadable audio books through the National Library Service BARD app to any smart device, which gives access to tens of thousands of free audio titles. Within the first few months of my 2nd pregnancy, the scans showed the baby had an enlarged nuchal fold. This can indicate abnormalities including downs syndrome to heart defects and I went through genetic testing and bloodwork. Luckily everything came back normal but I was still anxious. As it turns out, on this day, 4 years ago, I lay in my hospital bed at Magee having contractions. Preston wasn't due until March 20th but my water had broken the afternoon of my baby show...er, only 3 days earlier. There was a team of doctors for me and a team for him. Brian and I didn't know what to expect. He made his way into this world early and we spent those next 52 days in the NICU. I developed PTSD related to feeding him because his heart rate would slow down and the machines would beep. I was scared to death to feed my own son. I didn't want to leave him in the hospital to be cared for by nurses. He was my son and I just wanted him home. He had reflux, feeding issues and sensory issues. We ended up receiving OT services in the NICU but that was just the first step. Luckily for us, we had an amazing OT through early intervention, Ronna. She taught us a whole lot about how we could help him. Her guidance and the support from our close family and friends got us through those first few months with a lot less anxiety. She helped me become a better mom and a better practitioner and that experience encouraged me to expand my knowledge base to continue to help my son and ultimately many others. I'm truly grateful for her help and can't believe it's been 4 years already. Happy birthday bud! **If you are concerned about your baby's development, please reach out to your local early intervention agency.** https://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/actearly/milestones/index.html
