The city is planning improvements to the southeast Lancaster thoroughfare between Church Street and just south of Chesapeake street. Residents, it says, know where problems exists and where changes could help.

"I think this role found me instead of me finding it," says Kyonna Bowman, executive director of The Mix at Arbor Place. Bowman has led The Mix since July 2019, three years after she joined the nonprofit as program director. Her path has been a circuitous one. Born and raised in Lancaster, she attended city schools. At age 16, pregnant with her son, Diante, she dropped out of 10th grade at McCaskey High School.

House lawmakers on Wednesday passed the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, a police reform bill that would ban chokeholds and eliminate qualified immunity for law enforcement. The 220-212 vote came nine months after Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man, was killed by Minneapolis police officers last spring. The wide-ranging legislation would also ban no-knock warrants, mandate data collection on police encounters, prohibit racial and religious profiling and redirect funding to community-based policing programs.
