According to city ordinance, snow/ice removal from sidewalks is required to be done within 24 hours after the snowfall stops. When snow accumulation is 12 inches or more, a path is required within 24 hours and the rest of the snow/ice removed within 48 hours. Because of the extraordinary snowfall amount, the City has not been enforcing the ordinance giving property owners extra time. However, warnings were issued on Monday (4 days after the snowfall stopped). Tickets are going to be issued tomorrow at properties where snow/ice has not been removed. Tickets are $25.

All of the comments on Facebook are being monitored. Your frustration is noted and understandable. There are many areas we can identify for improvement on all sides. City department personnel will be meeting after this to scrutinize the city's response and put plans in place for doing better. There has been steady progress on snow removal. Some have asked if we will be following the street sweeping schedule for snow removal on City streets. We are still working on the st...reets designated as snow emergency routes. Although the snow emergency declaration has expired, these are still the higher priorities right now. We will then assess the condition of the rest of the streets and make a plan accordingly. Thank you.

Was just driving through town checking the situation. Great to see so many people out there shoveling and helping neighbors get cars out and sidewalks cleared. Snow plow crews are still out there working round the clock to get to the smaller streets and alleys. It's taking a long time because it is a lot of snow and we only have so many trucks, plows, and people. Parking situation: There is parking available in city lots at Chestnut/2nd (by Coles Hardware); the lot besid...e the County assistance office at Chestnut/3rd. The CareerLink lot on Chestnut across from Coles. Also there's a lot between Arch and Woodlawn between 3rd and 4th streets that has some open spaces as well as the lot by Burger King. Bring a shovel because you may need to remove the snow from the space to park in it. Snow will be removed on the emergency routes at night. Tonight we will be removing snow on Market Street then parking will be allowed on Market St. Tomorrow night snow will be removed on Arch, Walnut, and Chestnut streets, then parking will be allowed on them. Will update on the rest of the streets once we have a schedule.

Your patience and cooperation is much appreciated! We know everyone is anxious to have their street and alley plowed. The crews are getting to them as fast as they can...it may not be today...over a foot of snow. Everyone is having to shovel out cars and driveways and behind their garages. The plows cannot avoid re-depositing snow when they make additional passes. Please do not throw/shovel snow into the streets. The plows just have to come back and re-push it to the ...curbs to keep streets clear. We know this is very difficult on some streets where sidewalks are very narrow. Please do your best and we'll do ours. Call/text (570)917-2090 if you have an urgent issue. Once again, thank you for your cooperation and patience!

The City of Sunbury, PA 20.01.2020

Good morning, Sunbury! Just spoke with DPW Supervisor Steve for an update on the night. They had many challenges and issues come up including a water main break at 4th / Reagan; getting an ambulance through to an address on Greenough; and plow trucks getting stuck due to the heavy weight of the snow when the precipitation mixed with rain for a while. Huge thanks to SMA for working side by side with DPW crews! Moving forward: Today DPW crews will work on widening path fo...r streets that were being plowed during the night and start on some alleys; Park/Rec will work on clearing municipal parking lots. Goal is to clear snow emergency routes so residents will be able to park at home when the snow emergency declaration is lifted and get parking lots clear enough for residents who parked there overnight to get out. Clearing snow on sidewalks of municipal properties. Tonight 11pm to 7 am DPW/SMA crews will work on removing snow from Market Street. Friday Day continuation of plowing secondary streets and alleys. Code Officers and Parks/Rec employees will clear snow from city-owned blight properties. Friday Night 11 pm to 7 am Snow removal on Arch, Walnut, and Chestnut Updates on plans will be provided as we make them. Hoping warmer temps starting Sunday and early next week will help. Residents may expect a street snow removal schedule according to the street sweeping schedule. More information will be posted if that becomes necessary. This has been an extraordinary storm and it will take extraordinary efforts to recover. Please be patient, help your neighbors, and be safe!
