The Lord's New Church "Did you Know" report (12-14-20) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Lord's New Church and was ...built in the 1930's. It was designed by architect George Howe of Mellor, Meigs, and Howe. The property was transformed from cornfields into a magnificent estate by Rev. Theodore Pitcairn, in the style of early French farm groups. The bones of the original "Orangery" still stand today. An orangery or orangerie was a room or a dedicated building on the grounds of fashionable residences from the 17th to the 19th centuries where orange and other fruit trees were protected during the winter, as a very large form of greenhouse or conservatory. The orangery and adjacent greenhouse on the property were used often and beautifully kept. There were hedges outlining the fields, and apple trees lining the drives. Today, we use the orangery for fire circles, group work and also have plans to use it as a stunning backdrop for upcoming concerts, hopefully as soon as the spring of 2021!
