What a great way to kick off November, Diabetes Awareness Month, with this book that helps kids and families learn about diabetes! We are so excited about this new book *Shia Learns* by Shaina Hatchell and to be the first Children’s Hospital to offer this book as a resource to families! Starting November 1st there will be a new purchase option for those who would like to donate a book to a family with new onset diabetes.
The way we talk about diabetes can have a big impact on motivation, behaviors and outcomes in diabetes. Try these tips when talking with a loved one: Instead of diabetic...try person with diabetes Instead of controlling diabetes...try managing diabetes... Instead of good or bad numbers...try high or low numbers

We would like to take a moment and recognize, Dr. De León-Crutchlow, Chief of the Division of Endocrinology and Diabetes at CHOP. Dr. De León-Crutchlow was selected as one of the prominent Panamanians featured in a segment called Mentes Brillantes, which translates to Brilliant Minds. Dr. De León-Crutchlow discussed her journey to CHOP and her roles as physician, researcher, administrator, teacher and mother. A true inspiration to all of us.
Last week we said goodbye and good luck to one of our social workers, Dawn Devan-Bertrand. The DCC staff, patients, families and friends will miss you dearly and we wish you all the happiness as you take on a new adventure. Thank you for all your years of service!
