In this week’s #StaffSpotlight, we’re excited to feature Miss Marlene Caccavo, a classroom float at our Franklin Infant and Toddler center in #VenangoCounty. What is your favorite part of your job? Interacting with the children. ... Where are you from? I have lived in Franklin, PA for 40 years but I'm originally from Saint Marys, PA. How long have you been with CDC? Almost 16 years. What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given? Don't react to any situation unless you have all the facts. What are some activities that are on your bucket list? White water rafting and visiting Hawaii and Las Vegas. What are the small things that make your day better? Hugs from the kids and when they want me to play with them. What is your favorite children’s book? Goodnight Moon Why did you want to work with kids? Because they make me happy and I love playing with them. What accomplishments in the classroom or CDC fill you with pride so far this year? Receiving the "I Am the Mission" award from CDC, having the kids know my name and asking me to read a story to them. What is your favorite CDC memory? At Franklin School-Age, years ago, we threw candy out the kitchen window and watched the children on the basketball court, amazed because they didn't know where it was coming from. I also always enjoyed decorating the bulletin boards for every season. Thank you so much for your dedication to the children of CDC! We really appreciate you! #CDCStaff #FranklinPA #CDCenters

Our friends in the Cardinals class at CDC's Cascade Center in Erie are having fun with their Creative Curriculum study on balls. Their Dramatic Play area has been transformed into an arcade where the boys and girls are exploring different ways balls can move, practicing math skills by tallying their points and counting pins they knock over while bowling as well as using money to buy goodies at the concession stand. What a fun way to bring learning to life in the classroom! #CDCenters #CreativeCurriculum #HeadStart #EriePA #ErieCounty

As we enter the new year, we’d like to provide an update on our Venango/Crawford County Head Start classrooms, which have been learning remotely since Dec. 7. Currently, we are working towards providing a target date for when children will be able to return to in-person instruction. Please know that our intention is to have children return to their classroom. We realize virtual learning is not ideal, but our team is exhausting all possible resources to continue providing your... children with quality education from home. The Health Services Team and other organizational leadership are closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation locally, how area school districts are operating and weighing additional guidance from state authorities. Please stay tuned to our social media platforms, where we will share any new developments as they arise. Thank you!

The Century Lions class recently took part in emergent writing by creating books for their friends and families. In the early stage of emergent writing in preschool, drawing is considered to be a from of writing where children read their drawings to you. We love the creativity our Lion friends shared with us through their books! #CDCenters #HeadStart #EmergentWriting #Preschool #EriePA

Learning through play is achieved in many different ways at CDC. Our friends in the Carp room at our Willow center shared with us their Play Plans. Before they start playing with their toys each day they sit down and draw what they are going to do and talk about it as a group. The children then take their drawings and practice building what they have drawn. Future architects are learning and growing at CDC!
