Update from Parks & Rec on Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Philadelphia Parks & Recreation continues to be in close coordination and communication with other City agencies and partners to provide welcoming and safe places for all during the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19). Here are some updates: As a preventative measure, effective March 13, all Parks & Rec directed and permitted programs (with the exception of Tot Rec and After School programs) are suspended until further n...otice. Although programs are suspended, parks, rec centers, and older adult centers remain open at this time. While Parks & Rec Tot Rec programs and After School programs remain operating and open for the time being, we will make future determinations as additional information and guidance is available from the Philadelphia Department of Public Health and School District of Philadelphia. Permitted events should follow the City guidance on public gathering: o Gatherings of 1,000 or more people are prohibited for 30 days, effective March 12, 2020. o The City strongly recommends that events with an expected attendance between 250 and 1,000 people be cancelled, including sporting events and faith-based services. We will continue to share updates through Parks & Rec staff, on Parks & Rec social media (on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram), and on our website. Please visit Public Health’s Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) page for the latest local information and resources. www.phila.gov/parksandrecreation for up-to-the-minute information. For social media, you can share/retweet updates from @PhilaParkandRec.

Want to maximize your South Philadelphia Book Fiesta experience? There’s going to be a lot of stuff going on for the South Philadelphia Book Fiesta and we’ve pl...anned out the perfect schedule if you’re trying to visit all 6 destinations and want to maximize your chances of winning prizes. You will be put in for a drawing for a $50 or $30 gift card to Target at EACH location you visit. Once a winner is drawn, all the tickets will be pooled together for the grand prize drawing to win a one-year family membership to the Philadelphia Zoo. So here’s how we’d plan our day if we wanted to maximize our experience: 11:00 11:40 AM: Start at the South Philly Branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia for Fox in Socks inspired story time and catch the Foxy Doxies in 'Fox in Soxies' perform their fun-for-all-ages, tongue-twisty musical performance of this Dr. Seuss favorite! 12:00 12:45 PM: Head to the Donatucci Branch for Garden Games and a performance from Stevie and the Bluescasters for a unique acoustic performance of all kinds of blues songs! 1:00 1:35 PM: Catch the Fumo Family Library Branch's ukulele students perform a 15 minute concert and stick around to make your very own tiny Magnetic Magic Mosaic to put on your refrigerator. 1:50 2:30 PM: Browse some books to purchase at the Whitman Library - Free Library of Philadelphia (proceeds will go to supporting their library programming!) and partake in some Old School South Philly Street Games! You may have worked up an appetite by this point, so be sure to grab a bite to eat at the Sophie Food Truck. 2:45 3:30 PM: Check out the Neighborhood Icons Photography Exhibit at Charles Santore Library, a photographic celebration of the neighborhood created by members of the community and see South Philadelphia from their perspectives. 4:00 5:00 PM: The Queen Memorial Library - Free Library of Philadelphia will be moving the party over to Chew Rec Center(at 19th Street & Washington Avenue) for a Community BBQ that will include games, music, story time and various giveaways! #bookfiesta19
