Welcome to the new year! Every month we will be thanking our residents who have made a positive impact on their community. For the month of January, we are celebrating Alex Collyge, a UPenn freshman who lived at @chestnutdrexel this past fall term. This is what a neighbor said about him: Alex is kind to everyone he meets and has been a consistent source of welcome for me and my roommates. For example, when we first arrived and had not met anyone yet, Alex introduced us to ...his roommates and we became fast friends. You can always find Alex in Chestnut Square, whether he is hanging out in his room, working out in the gym, or studying in the lounge he has truly become an integral part of our community. Seeing Alex in the study lounge will always brighten your day because he loves to start conversations. What’s even better is that Alex's conversations are not just superficial, instead he aims to make meaningful connections with those around him. Furthermore, he is a true gentlemen and will always hold the door open for you. He is a great leader too, and he loves bringing people together. For example, he organized a brunch between his roommates and mine, and he even did all the cooking! If you are having a bad day, he will always make sure to reach out and offer to go on a walk or get food with you to help cheer you up. He is the kindest person I have met during my time at Chestnut Square, and he has brought a true sense of community here. If he were not living in this Chestnut Square, my experience here just wouldn't have been the same. Alex is the embodiment of kindness, intelligence, and joy. Alex is from Arkansas and is studying Business and Middle Eastern Studies. We will miss Alex and all the UPenn freshman. Good luck to everyone this year and keep in touch! Don't miss out on the fun! We are partnering with the @hihowareyouproject to host a Virtual Music and Art Competition in honor of Hi, How Are You Day taking place on January 22, 2021. Our goal is to highlight talented individuals nationwide and get them connected to the important work that Hi, How Are You is doing for mental health education and awareness. ... (as a musician): DM @americancampus your performance of a Daniel Johnston song or an original song that speaks to you and your mental wellness journey! (as an artist): DM @americancampus your artwork -- could be a drawing, painting, sculpture, knitting, or any piece of your own creation that speaks to you and your mental wellness journey! Through this contest, we’ll celebrate the life and legacy of the late artist, musician and mental health advocate Daniel Johnston and the importance of mental wellness together!
