This information is being shared as a public service announcement. It is not intended to be political, although some may perceive it that way. Our EMS system in Pennsylvania is struggling. In many places, a volunteer model that was developed 50-60 years ago is still being attempted even though the qualified staffing in not available anymore to make it feasible. In other places, EMS companies have paid staffing but wages are low, turnover is high, and there is never enough ...people to go around. Many EMS providers work full time at one agency and part time at another to fill the void in their finances and their community. Fire companies are facing some of the same issues. Just because a very pretty fire engine arrives does not mean there are enough qualified people on board to do all the required jobs. We are very lucky in Carlisle to have local governments who invest in our organizations. Some fire & EMS agencies are not as lucky. When organizations in one area struggle, folks need to fill that gap in coverage. When they are handling calls at great distances, not only is that patient receiving a lower level of care, the next patient and the next patient have to wait longer because the resource allocation has a negative domino effect across the entire region. This is not intended to be negative to our friends in Perry County. They are doing the best they can with limited resources, and have been doing so for a very long time. We all need to start thinking about how we will deliver emergency services in 2025 and not how we did it in 1975. If you were not aware, this is going on every day in our communities and you need to start thinking about it. -Michael Snyder, President CFRS See more

Crews were sent at 19:57 to the 100 blk of Ridge Dr in Middlesex Township for smoke in the House. Engine (6), Squad (7), Tanker (2),and Traffic 33 made the resp...onse. Light smoke was showing upon arrival with crews going inside to investigate while a hand line was pulled and charged to the front door. Investigations found fire in the 2nd floor wall near a window and controlled it with a water extinguisher. The area was opened up on the outside and window frame removed. The handline was taken inside to knock down any remaining fire. A backup line was also pulled and stretched to a porch roof in case of need. Exterior crews through multiple ground ladders to the house as well establishing interior and exterior lighting. The fire was controlled quickly and all floors including basement and attic thoroughly checked for extension due to balloon frame construction. Co. 33 was assisted by Union Fire Co. 41, North Middleton Volunteer Fire Company, Cumberland Goodwill EMS, Carlisle Fire & Rescue Services, and Carlisle Barracks Fire. Units operated for 1.5 hours. Thanks to West Shore Bureau of Fire for the transfer and help getting cleanup and ready for service. See more
