It was my pleasure to receive 86 devotionals today gifted to us by Lorri Palovchak. Her efforts were put forth in February as part of her organization's Love in Action month. Lorri tells the rest: "We were encouraged to work on a fundraising program, for an organization/cause that was close to our heart. It was not a difficult decision for me to choose Candy's Place.... The devotional donated is called "Be Still & Know". It offers hope and support during uncertain times. It provides space for journaling, after having read the message for that day. It will assist in passing the hours that some of us spend in treatment..ALONE...Since Covid does not allow for a chemo/radiation buddy any longer. Faith is a huge part of some patient's recovery! Most of you know that I am a cancer patient for the 2nd time. Prior to chemo, I visited Candy's Place for the first time. Upon entering the building, I felt a sense of calm and welcome kinship with the volunteers ( many of whom are cancer survivors, themselves). I was offered wigs, support groups, support and wellness services, and special gift bags, most of which were donated and came at NO CHARGE to me ( very important when cancer takes aim at your finances). We are excited to introduce our new member to the team: vibrational sound therapist Michelle Smith! Please read her story and credentials below and be sure to welcome Michelle! We are grateful and delighted to have Michelle on board!... Michelle Smith started working at Geisinger Medical Center in 2009. At that time, her role was to manage an outpatient home for adult cancer patients and families undergoing cancer treatment. Feeling overwhelmed by the job, Michelle discovered yoga as a tool to help manage stress and anxiety in 2010. Quickly falling in love with the practice of yoga, Michelle completed her first yoga teacher training in 2013 and since then has taught Bikram, Vinyasa, and Restorative yoga at numerous studios in NE Pennsylvania. Additionally, Michelle completed her MS in Yoga Therapy at Maryland University of Integrative Health in 2016 and has helped to create an Integrative Medicine program at Geisinger Medical Center. In addition to Yoga Therapy, Michelle has explored other modalities of Integrative Medicine such as Reiki and Vibrational Sound Therapy. In 2018, Michelle was certified through the Vibrational Sound Association (VSA) as a Vibrational Sound Therapist. In 2019, Michelle had the privilege of travelling to Thailand with the VSA to use vibrational sound therapy with elephants in labor to help ease the delivery process. In 2020, Michelle completed her Reiki mastery. Additionally, in the fall of 2020, Michelle was hired by Walter Reed as a mind-body therapist offering telemedicine appointments to patients to help improve anxiety management, sleep, and pain perception.
