Brownsville General Hospital 10.11.2020

Hi folks! I just wanna apologize for the lack of activity here, I've been having a difficult year. We at BGH believe in being open and honest about mental health, and that's been my struggle this year. If you find yourself not feeling well mentally, don't pretend it's nothing! Take care of yourself, you deserve to be okay no matter what it takes. Hoping to see some pics of the changing leaves in the coming weeks! And as always Nemacolin Castle will be hosting ghost tours all... thru the Halloween season! -admin

hooray for october! the virginia creeper and other vines on the oldest building turn beautiful shades of scarlet and orange and crimson this time of year. against a perfectly clear autumn sky and the golden-yellow bricks, it makes for quite the pretty picture! and who doesn't love a good creepy locale for halloween photo shoots? there are many spooky places in brownsville, but we might just be the spookiest! don't forget to check out The Nemacolin Castle while you're in town-our Hospital might be the scariest, but the Castle is genuinely ancient!

In the mid-1960s, the Brownsville General Hospital had one of the highest occupancy rates in the state of up to 99%, which prompted the construction of the new hospital off of Simpson Rd. By the mid-1970s, the drop in population had become so extreme that the new hospital was in danger of bankruptcy, and the rate of births so low that the maternity ward had to be closed. Amazing how things can change so much in such a relatively short period of time, ain't it?
