When a medical catastrophe happens, it is often not simply the result of one person making a careless mistake; more typically, the failure of the hospital to have safety systems in place to act as a safety net results in unnecessary death or disability. Such is the case of a 40-year-old woman, mother of four children, who came to the emergency room because she had been ill for weeks and running a fever for over a week. She eventually died from endocarditis. Read more: https://atleehall.com//hospital-communication-systems-fai/

Robin Jabour has been an attorney with Atlee Hall for over twenty years. She became a partner in 2016. Robin has successfully represented clients in a variety of cases including medical malpractice, automobile crashes, and products liability. More recently, Robin has been focused on nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) infection cases, in which Atlee Hall represents a number of Plaintiffs nationwide. Robin is known for her compassion and client care. As her daughter, Melissa a...lso an attorney with Atlee Hall describes: Robin, or Mom to me, has only two goals in mind with each and every one of her cases: get the best result for her clients, and treat them the way she would want to be treated if she were in their shoes. She has forged genuine, deep, compassionate relationships with her clients. She regularly updates them on the status of their cases, spends time with them at their homes, and always remembers important dates and events in their lives. Cases are more than just cases for my momthey are important and deeply personal. It is often impossible to see her outside of work and not talk about at least one of her cases; that is how invested she is and how seriously she takes her responsibility as advocate and counselor. She is a true role model for younger attorneys, both in her vast knowledge of the law and her ability to empathize with the individuals we fight for on a daily basis. Robin’s legal team also includes legal assistant, Amelia Polys, and paralegal, Janelle Valore, who both agree that, Robin’s kindness, compassion and loyalty, extends beyond the courtroom and her clients, to the office. She is well-respected and valued by all those who work with her. Whether it’s workrelated or not, Robin has a way of giving her undivided attention and guidance to all those who seek it. Robin always seeks to listen first, to put herself in the shoes of the other person to understand their perspective, and responds with measured and thoughtful suggestions. Beyond practicing law, Robin’s care and compassion continues. She donates her professional services to the Wills for Heroes Foundation and serves as a legislative advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. This year, Robin and Melissa served as Poll Watchers, observing polling locations to ensure a fair election. Robin also supports the Veterans Foundation, in honor of her father who served in the Korean War.

If you have a loved one in a nursing home, you already know the importance of good systems and proper staffing in providing safe, effective, and dignified elder care. Nursing homes often place profits before the wellbeing and care of their residents. Of the 76 million baby boomers born in the United States between 1946 and 1964, nearly 71 million are still alive, and getting older by the day. For years, boomers have been the dominant population group in our country, but it’s ...only now that boomers are aging into nursing homes and other long term care facilities. When combined with increased incidences of sedentary lifestyles and the prevalence of chronic diseases, the demand for nursing homes and long term care will continue to rapidly increase. Jeff Gutkowski, Associate Attorney at Atlee Hall, describes the problem and some of the signs that point to understaffing in nursing homes. https://atleehall.com///03/understaffing-in-nursing-homes/

According to a recent Kaiser Family Foundation Poll, nearly half of all Americans report that COVID-19 is harming their mental health in some way. Essential workers are especially at risk for mental health issues as a result of the virus. Two New York health care workers committed suicide after weeks of dealing with an influx of COVID-19 patients and the emotional toll that tending to those patients took on them. For the average American, problems such as social isolation and... unemployment have a significant effect on a person’s mental health. Many Americans - children and adults alike -are reporting difficulty in sleeping, eating, and concentrating. In addition, there are reports of increased alcohol and/or substance abuse. Paralegal, Sandi Shaub, explores things we can do to help reduce stress levels in times of uncertainty: https://atleehall.com//mental-health-in-the-time-of-the-c/ Photo cred: BelievePerform

While most Pennsylvanians are social distancing and doing their best to stay healthy during 2020 and COVID-19, the Pennsylvania Courts and Pennsylvania Senate have each taken measures to change existing Pennsylvania auto insurance law. Senate Bill 1212 (Printer No. 1812) was drafted by members of the Pennsylvania Senate on June 23, 2020. In the Bill, the Senate removes stacking of underinsured and uninsured motorist coverage. Currently, the Motor Vehicle Financial Responsibility Law (MVFRL) permits the stacking of coverage where the insured has a number of insured vehicles. An insured may waive stacking by signing a form and receiving a premium reduction for the waiver of coverage. The Senate Bill prohibits stacking in its entirety.
