Tip of the day from Appliance Ace Repairs Whether you have a gas, electric, or induction cooktop, there are a few things you can (and should) do to keep it in good working order. From cleaning tips to making your stovetop do double-duty here are five tips for making your stove work harder for your kitchen. This is a good checklist for those of you just finishing the Kitchen Cure! Take a moment and check through each of these items and see if your stovetop is in good shape.... Make sure the stove and burners are level - It's easy for a free-standing stove to get a little tilted one way or the other, and gas and electric burners can also get slightly tilted out of whack. Here are tips for leveling your burners and instructions for leveling the stove itself. Make sure your whole stove is crumb and food-free - Yes, we keep the top of our range clean and polished, but what about underneath the burners? Check the burners and underneath the stovetop (it usually lifts up) and vacuum away old food and crumbs. These can really clog up your burners, and they also can attract unwanted wildlife. (Ever had a mouse in the kitchen? Ick.) Figure out which burner is strongest - This may be obvious (or not). But the amount of heat (BTUs or watts) your burners put out tends to vary widely from burner to burner. Make sure you're using the right burner for the right job! Use small, wimpy burners for low-heat simmering, and the strongest, biggest burners for stir-frying. Learn how to diffuse the heat for low-heat cooking - Many gas stoves have problems with simmering and cooking on really low heat. A heat diffuser is an essential little gadget for simmering and low-heat work. They're cheap and easy to use, and your delicate sauces will be much better! Cover the stove top for more counter space - And finally, once your stove is clean and level, make it do double-duty! If you have a small kitchen, your stove should double-duty when it's not lit up. Cover the burners with burner covers and use it as a chopping area, or as a prep station when not in use.

Tip of the day from Appliance Ace Repairs 7 Important Tips For Sparkling Clean Dishes !! 1. Rinse most or ALL the food off your dishes prior to putting them in the dishwasher. Use warm water only, NO SOAP, when rinsing. Even though you think you've rinsed all the soap off, you haven't! This will cause a sudsing effect in your dishwasher and leave a film on your dishes. If you leave food on your dishes, that food usually ends up clogging the pump, spray arms and drain li...nes. Then you'll need to call me for a repair!! 2. Do not overload the dishwasher! Leave some room so that water from the spray arms can get to all the dishes. 3. Do not put large & tall items in dishwasher. Wash these items in the sink by hand. (The Old- Fashioned Way). Large items like pots, pans and skillets block the water. Tall items like cookie sheets can block the spray arms from turning. 4. If your machine has a pop-up tower connected to the lower spray arm, be sure not to cover the opening in the center of the lower rack. This has to be clear so the tower can pop up and clean the top rack. If you have a dish covering this area or even leaning over it, the top rack will not get cleaned properly. 5. Do not use too much dishwasher detergent. More is NOT better! I suggest filling the first cup (which goes into the tub immediately) completely full. The second cup is not necessary but if you want to put detergent in that one also, only fill it half way. I prefer using the pre-measured packets. However, don't put the packet in the soap cup like it says on the box. Put the packet on the bottom of the dishwasher under the lower rack. This gives the dishwasher more time to rinse out all the soap before the end of the cycle. 6. VERY VERY IMPORTANT!! When you are ready to start your machine, first turn on the HOT water at the sink and wait till it gets as hot as it's going to get. Then turn the water off and start your dishwasher. This puts hot water into the machine from the start. If you don't do this, the tub could fill up with cold water.(Because it's usually a long way from the Hot Water Heater to the kitchen) Cold water will not disolve the soap or clean the dishes properly. 7. Finally, Clean your dishwasher once a month! I recommend dishwasher magic. Just take cap off and place in machine the top off bottle has a wax cover that will melt off when dishwasher is working put unit on pots and pans cycle and let dishwasher magic work its magic!!!

Tip of the day from Appliance Ace Repairs: Don't be afraid cleaning a refrigerator (and keeping it clean) isn't a herculean task if you follow these tips: Create a homemade all-purpose cleaner by combining the following in a gallon of hot water: 1 cup clear ammonia, -cup vinegar and -cup baking soda. Pour into a spray bottle, or use from a bowl with a sponge. This no-rinse formula is a degreaser that prevents mold and mildew. Wipe down the entire refrigerator with this s...olution, including the drawers and shelves. To prevent grease and odor buildup on top of the refrigerator after you've cleaned it, just buff some paste wax into the surface. Use toothpaste to remove tough stains. It contains a gentle abrasive and has a pleasant odor. To get those dust bunnies out from under the refrigerator, remove the grill and run a yardstick covered with a pair of pantyhose underneath. Also check the pan of water under the unit, since it can hold unpleasant-smelling water. To combat household odors, fill a clean old sock with activated charcoal from an aquarium store, tie a knot in the top and place it in the back of the refrigerator. This will last a month or two, depending on the size of your refrigerator and how heavily you use it. For a faster fix for odors, sprinkle vanilla extract on some cotton balls, place in a shallow dish and put in the refrigerator. Orange extract also works. Eliminate lingering odors in your vegetable bins by putting a crumpled piece of a brown paper grocery bag inside and leaving it for 48 hours. The paper will absorb the odor. Check for adequate tightness of the insulating seam around the door by placing a lighted flashlight inside the refrigerator and closing the door. Turn off the lights in the room (this should be done at night) and see if any light escapes from the seams. This will help you pinpoint any leaks. If you don't keep your refrigerator full, fill a large bottle (at least a gallon) with water and leave it in the refrigerator. It helps keep the refrigerator cool and running efficiently. Keep your refrigerator at 37 degrees.

Tip of the day from Appliance Ace Repairs: High Efficiency Washing Machine Care Begin by filling the washing machine with hot water on the largest load setting.... Make sure there is no laundry in the washer. Add 2 cups of vinegar to the water to get rid of odor problems. (Most HE washers should have a clean cycle on it and you can add vinegar or bleach on that setting). Allow the washing machine to run through a complete wash and rinse cycle. Fill the washer a second time with hot water, also on the largest load setting. Add 2 cups of bleach to the water to help with stain removal. Again, allow the machine to run through a complete wash and rinse cycle. If all of the stains are removed, run an additional cycle without adding anything to the water. This will thoroughly rinse away any remaining residue. Remove the bleach dispenser and fabric softener dispenser and soak them in a bucket of warm water. When they have soaked long enough, remove them from the water, lay them on a towel, and spray them with an all-purpose spray cleaner. Wipe away any dirt with the towel. Dry the dispensers and return them to their original places in the machine. Finally, inspect the rubber door seal for mold and mildew. Pull back the seal to examine the hidden crevices. Mix 1 cup of liquid chlorine bleach with 1 gallon of warm water. Moisten a clean white cloth with the bleach water solution, then wipe down the seal to remove any mold and mildew. Allow the solution to remain on the seal for five minutes, then wipe down the door seal with a clean, dry white cloth. Follow these steps and your HE washer should be in tip-top shape once again and the stinky smell gone. Just rememberyou need to do it REGULARLY! (once a month at least). To keep the smellies from coming backdo the following EACH time you do a load of clothes: 1. Leave the door open after washing and always take items out of the washer when not in use. 2. Wipe down the rubber seal and drum. 3. Take the soap/softener drawer out to dry. These simple steps should keep your HE washer running efficiently AND clothes smelling fresh! (the best of both worlds!)

7 tips to avoid dryer fires. With more laundry areas placed near bedrooms and bathrooms, it's especially important to be aware of the danger that a clothes drye...r fire or poor ventilation can create. Here are seven tips to consider for optimum safety: Don’t leave the dryer running while you sleep; if a fire starts, you may not wake up to take corrective action. Never leave your house with the dryer running; if a fire starts you won’t be there to take corrective action. Check the lint filter: Lint build-up is the leading cause of dryer fires. Lint accumulation in the dryer and dryer vent reduces airflow and creates a highly flammable source. Remove lint from the filter before or after each use. Wash the lint filter periodically. Dryer sheets can cause a waxy build-up on lint screens. Use warm soapy water to remove. Check the dryer exhaust vents: Restricted dryer vents cause reduced air flow and high temperatures in the dryer. Look for lint accumulation and any other blockages. Use a sheet-metal exhaust pipe. If a fire starts in a plastic exhaust pipe it can melt quickly, increasing the chances that fire will spread. Don't pile laundry or other items on top of the dryer; the fewer flammable materials near the dryer, the better. Check your smoke alarms regularly to ensure that batteries are powered and the unit works. If you don't have alarms, get them!
