Job Hunting Tip: Don't submit multiple applications to one company for different positions. It may seem like more applications means higher chances of getting called, but this method of job hunting can come off as desperate and unfocused. It can especially look bad if you're not truly qualified for every job you've applied for. You want your potential employer to see that you know what you want and are confident enough in your skills that you can get it. Now there can be exceptions to this, if you are in fact qualified to 2 or 3 positions with the same company it's less likely to be a red flag to the person(s) hiring. For some additional reading check out this article from Monster on what recruiters think when they see you apply for multiple positions with one company https://goo.gl/z2NcSr

Job Hunting Tip: To help keep your job search organized, create a professional email address that you use only for applying to jobs. This is a good way to ensure that the emails you may receive from recruiters and hiring personnel don't get lost among your regular emails. This also allows you to make sure the email your giving potential employers is professional. An example of a professional email could be something like [email protected] For more information on how an unprofessional email can be hurting your job hunt and how to create a more professional one check out this article from SnagAJob https://goo.gl/y1bQxP

As a recruiter I cannot stress enough how important it is that you thoroughly read the job ad before applying or interviewing for a position. This is important due to several reasons: 1. Ensures you really want to interview for the job. 2. You will get a better idea if the job matches what your looking for, or you will know what kind of questions you still need to ask if/when you get a call... 3. You don't waste time, either your own applying for a job you don't want, or the recruiter's who contacted or interviewed you unnecessarily Now, if the ad doesn't have all the info you need to know that you genuinely are interested that is a separate issue, but reading the ad will still allow you to know what questions you need answered before you bother with an interview

Resume Writing Tip: Take care when listing skills and try to avoid listing things that should be a given, i.e. Hard Working, Self-Starter, Dependable, Problem Solving, Detail-Oriented, etc. These are all things that are expected of most employees and do nothing to help you stand out.

Job Hunt Tip: When sending your resume to a recruiter or hiring manager make sure you reference what position you are applying for. If you are unsure because you don't know if they are hiring and if so, what for, or you are just looking to network you can instead put what kind of position you are looking for. Full-time, Part-time, remote, list possible relevant skills, etc. This is especially important when sending to an employment agency that may have multiple very different positions.

These are some great tips! It's surprising the number of people who don't know how to send out professional emails. I am constantly getting random emails from potential candidates which have no subjects, sometimes it's only a resume and so I have no idea why I'm getting it. I get a lot where the grammar is seriously lacking, even going so far as to use text style speech in the email, u instead of you is fairly common. https://www.glassdoor.com//job-seeker-email-etiquette-ti/

Resume Writing Tip: When putting in descriptions of your positions try to be as concise as possible. You'll want to focus on listing job duties that might be relevant to the position you are applying for rather than covering all of the miscellaneous tasks you took care of. Hiring managers and recruiters will have a lot of resumes to look through and you want to make it easy for them to see at a glance that you have what they're looking for. Having paragraphs of information listed for each job you had can make it more difficult to discern exactly what kind of experience you have to offer and your resume may end up in the "No" pile as a result.

Job Hunting Tip: Be aware of what people can see on your social media profiles, especially if you are applying for a professional (i.e not retail, warehouse, fast food, etc) position. There is a very real possibility your potential employer will take a look at your social media profiles and use that as part of their decision making process. When they are looking at your social profiles they are trying to get an idea of your character, and if what they are seeing doesn't match up with the kind of character they're looking for in a potential employee they may decide not to hire you.

Job Hunt Tip: Friends & Family should NEVER be used as references on your resume. This includes significant others. Because they have a personal relationship with you we cannot trust that they will give us an unbiased review of your work ethic, personality, and what kind of employee you will make. Most people also tend to act differently around friends & family than coworkers, and we want to know how you act in a professional environment, not at home. If you have limited or no work experience but still need references try to use people who've had the chance to observe your work and have had supervisory type role in your life; this could be prior teachers, guidance counselors, coaches, etc. These people usually have a more professional relationship with you and can provide a better picture of what kind of worker you are.

Job Hunting Tip: If you see a company has several openings, do not apply to all of them, regardless of whether or not you are qualified for all of them. Pick the one you most want and/or are the most qualified for. When you apply to multiple positions with the same company it looks like you either: 1. Do not know what you want to do 2. Do not know what you are looking for or 3. Did not really read the job description and are just applying to a bunch of positions. None of these are impressions you want to give your possible employer.

Tuesday Tip: A follow up email thanking your interviewer for their time and consideration is a great way to help you stand out from other candidates. Whether you're applying for an entry level or executive level position it is a good habit to get into to make sure your interviewer remembers you after your interview. #tuesdaytip #tuesdaytips #jobinterviewtips #jobsearchtip #interviewtips
