Allah the Exalted tells His Beloved Messenger to inform us of the blessed ways we should express our joy. He says, [O Prophet] say, In Allah’s grace and mercy let them rejoice. That is far better than whatever [wealth] they amass. [Quran 10:58] Join us on October 31st for Al-Maqasid’s annual Loving the Beloved , a celebration of the gift of mercy and guidance in the Prophet Muhammad. Imam al-Ghazali states that It is evident that reflection is the key to illumination, the basis for insight, the net for catching forms of knowledge, and the snare to capture direct perception and understanding. And Allah the Exalted says, "Indeed in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the day and night there are signs for people of reason. Those who remember Allah while standing, sitting, and lying on their sides, and reflect upon the creation... of the heavens and the earth." As Rabi’ al-Awwal drew near, Shaykh Yahya Rhodus discussed the enormous responsibility Muslims have in lands of disbelief and heedlessness to learn their religion, practice it, and then teach it to others. He also mentioned the great weight that gatherings of knowledge and remembrance are afforded on the Day of Judgment.

Sh. Yahya Rhodus continues his discussion on spiritual chivalry (futuwwa) looking at the virtue of being a servant to Allah the Exalted Alone, as mentioned in Imam al-Sulami’s book, Kitab al-Futuwwa, and in two aphorisms by Ibn‘Ata Illah al-Iskandari.

Alhamdulilah our Weekend Retreat is currently underway. We are studying Imam al-Ghazali’s Book 39 of the Ihya Ulum al-Din on the Sunna of Reflection. We ask Allah the Exalted for His enabling grace in opening our insight to reflect deeply and truly on His signs.

Allah the Exalted tells us multiple times in the Qur’an that no one can escape death. In this Khutba, Shaykh Yahya Rhodus discusses the importance of preparing ...for death’s consequences by striving for the higher levels of certainty so that, at the moment of death, one’s faith is absolutely firm and one longs to meet his Lord.
